League file problems with online league

I'm in an online league, which is very fun. But I keep having problems. Right now, the league file cannot be loaded in game via ftp for me (it used to but won't now), and I was told by my friend that what I should do is put the new file in my saved games folder, then extract it there so it will replace the old league file. when I do this, about 1000 errors come up. It says "WinRar diagnostic messages" and then says "cannot create news", "cannot create replays" and "cannot create messages." Does anybody know this? It is so frustrating for me right now, I feel like I'll solve one problem only to have a new one emerge.

P.S. I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1525 with plenty of memory, and Windows Vista (which I absolutely despise and am trying to replace with Windows XP)

are you placing the .rar file in your folder or are you extracting the file you download to the file?

I don't know what the .rar is, I'm not particularly crafty with computers. I am putting the file in my saved games, then extracting it. It asks if I want to replace my old file, and I say yes. then a bunch of problems start.
