Warhammer Baseball?

Is there any big giant nerds out there who would be interested in creating a Warhammer-esque style baseball league using the Warhammer fantasy universe? I've started brainstorming so different ways to do this but it really hasn't got much further than that. I think this could be a really fun league to manage in.

...if you have no idea what Warhammer is then please disregard then post

Solonor does a fantasy-style league and I've done a much-maligned Hobbit league. Search for them on the board and they may give you a few ideas.

That's an awesome idea! Now we can do the PBP, it's be cool to have undead players... "And he swings, and OH! His arm has flown into the crowd, and they're loving it! That fans taking a souvenir home tonight!"

Warhammer would be a great universe for a league. The only problem would be getting appropriate names, but I'm up for contributing in whatever small way I can.

Glad to hear your excitement Bonedwarf I was beginning to think that this was something that nobody else would be interested in. I've started doing some basic planning and I've also started creating player photos (jpeg 90x135) from any Warhammer images I can find online. I also started looking at maps of the Old World and the cities to get ideas as to how the divisions should be structured.

As far as the universe goes I wanted to try and make it both fun and somewhat true to the Warhammer fantasy world. Something like "Bloodbowl" (if your familiar with that) but with the ability for teams to have players from multiple factions (i.e. a Skaven and a Chaos Dwarf playing together on the same team).

If this sounds like something your interested in then PM me and we can get discuss the leagues direction and possibilities etc...

Thanks!

That sounds pretty sweet. I think in general BB teams would be a good way to start looking for names, certainly for the player file! As for where the teams/divisions should be i'd say the old world should be exclusivly used to avoid having lizardman teams. I'd be glad to help if you'd like but I won't be around for a few weeks as I'm being sent to Germany

I want to see players with injuries like "axe embedded in skull" listed as day-to-day.

OK this league is now officially being developed. If you have more suggestions or ideas please submit them to me and I'll do my best to get them in there.

Great ideas so far

Here is a sample of what the Bretonnia league is looking like.
*League of Bretonnia*
Guisoreux Chevalerie
Parravon Commercants
Moussillon Croix Vertes
Quenelles Charpentiers
L'Anguille Marins
Bordeleaux Les Negociants
Brionne Brutes

Never played Blood Bowl, but I do know it.

I still see the big problem being the names, and coming up with good unique ones.

I do like the idea of changing injuries as well (axe to the skull).

Made me think of WH40K game... Imagine a Tyrranid baseball player

I originally wanted to try doing a 40K league (I didn't know a ton about Warhammer) but it would hard considering that all humans in that universe are vehemently opposed to anything non-human and a tyranid team would probably be killed on site The Warhammer universe fits a better with "old school" feel of baseball seen as you don't need much technology to build a bat and ball.

markyah is working on a names list right now while I'm working on the cities and nations files. The injuries will be pretty normal although I did have an idea to attempt to have players leaving to go off to fight some war during the season. It could be something like "Player X has left the team to join the great crusade north against the evil Chaos gods... ...he is not expected to return"

We are going to include separate dwarf and elf leagues (independent leagues) where dwarf and elf players will develop specific skills such as increased HR power in the dwarven players and increased speed in the elven players as an example. The "professional" human league will then be able to draft from those leagues (as well as their own minor leagues). It will probably be limited how many elf or dwarf guys you can have on a team though.

The "fluff" is also coming together as the league becomes more of a reality. Once we get the league set-up and structure all finished then the next step is giving the game some history in the Warhammer world and making it all fit in nicely

Please post ideas or contributions here as it is incredibly helpful!

"not expected to return". Awesome

Yeah, 40K would be kind of tough. Any human player wouldn't take a bat to the plate, just a bolt gun and shoot the pitcher Though the prospect of seeing disciples of Khorne taking a pitch does amuse me

And the Tau team would just send the Kroot to go play

So will it just be dwarves and elves? Or are you throwing in Skaven etc...?

Still looking forward to this

I would love to throw in some of the evil factions like the Skaven but considering all the work that is needed just for all the different human, elf and dwarven nations/names it isn't looking likely.

This could be interesting...

I like the idea... I don't remember the Warhammer stuff, and it's been a while since I looked at blood bowl... But the idea sounds fun.

On the OOTP side, is it possible to use different creation modifiers for different regions? I know that you can modify creation modifiers for different leagues within your universe, but I'm not sure about creating different modifiers on locales. Something like this would make different races possible... The hometown field would essentially be a "Race" field instead, and different races could have more power, speed, etc, etc.

Just brainstorming, but this might be a way to make that possible.

It is my understanding that this is not possible at this time in OOTP 2006 but it would make things one heck of a lot easier

Sooooo....

Two years later and I'm officially back to working on this fictional league for use with OOTP 9.

Features:
  • Authenticity
This mod is intended to be a fun simulation of baseball in the Warhammer universe and as such I've done my very best to make it as authentic and true to the Warhammer mythos as possible. It is FAR from perfect but still very fun for fans of this particular game universe
  • Elves, dwarves and human, oh my!
Three distinct leagues that represent three of the "good" factions from Games Workshop's Warhammer universe. Humans, elves and dwarves. I'd love to include all of the factions but as a one man team I'm not able to do so at this point. Three is hard enough
  • Unique Player Traits
Each league will generate players with boosted abilities that represent the physical characteristics of that particular race (i.e. dwarves are very strong therefore hit more home-runs while elves are very fast and therefore steal more bases). However foreign player restrictions do exist so you can't have a human team fielding all elves and dwarves. Choose your foreign players wisely!
  • Trades may occur between the leagues so elves and dwarves can play on human teams and vice versa.
  • Nations
Elves and dwarves have their own unique nations where each league is based. Elves are from "Ulthuan" and Dwarves are from the "World's Edge Mountains." Humans teams and players can be generated from Bretonnia, The Empire, Kislev, Estalia, Tilea, The Border Princes, and Araby. The nations file (and others) has been edited appropriately to reflect this.
  • Names
Depending on which nation each team is based within players will have their own unique name generated for them accordingly. Elves will have elfish names and dwarves will have dwarfy names but this is also true for human teams from the various human nations (Bretonnia, The Empire, Estalia etc...). The name files are still in development and are taking a looooong time to get just right (authentic) due a difficulty in tracking down name lists for some areas of the Warhammer world.
  • Injuries
The injury file is being re-written/edited to be more Warhammer-like. Players will no longer injure themselves playing catch with their son, instead a throwing injury might present itself as "Player A injured him arm throwing a spear into a chaos warrior" or "Player B injured his leg while battling with a particularly vicious troll." Good stuff!
  • Teams
Teams will be based in authentic Warhammer cities according to the various resources that I've been able to locate. The bigger cities will have teams competing in the "majors" while small towns and villages will have teams that are competing in the minor leagues.

Things I'd like to do but either don't know how or don't have the time
  • Edit the player image generator so that elves and dwarves get unique pictures.
  • Add factions from the more evil areas of the Warhammer world. Orcs, Ogres, Dark Elves, Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts would be AWESOME but I have neither the time nor energy to be able to get them in this mod.

Anyway this is what I'm working on currently and it is moving along at a decent rate. Even if you aren't a fan of Warhammer I think this mod will still be pretty fun and nice change of scenery from the usual human and human teams that we're used to Not sure exactly when it'll all be finished but hopefully it won't be another two years before I post an update.

Looks like a great idea! Unfortunately I don't know enough about OOTP to do more than cheer you on, but I hope this gets done. I'd play it!
