Question How are you playing OOTP 9?

So, how are you playing the game right now?

I personally created a MLB league, then installed the all-in one addon... after that I released all players and scheduled a fantasy draft. Took over the Braves, and focused on drafting offense. My lineup includes Ichiro, Victor Martinez, A-Rod, Thome, Soriano. My rotation is ok (Lester, Owings, Park, Bedard, Cueto), but my bullpen absolutely sucks and my minor league system ranks dead-last in the league... I am anxious how this will work out. So far I am 1-2 ...

I took over the Braves and started out 0-5

I've converted my fictional league over that I've had since OOTP 3. In the past I've always just simmed and perused the stats. Now I'm gonna take over one of the teams and manage game by game. Should be fun.

Right now I'm tinkering around with the ABA. I took the ABA, saved it as a template, and I'm going to start a modern-day ABA franchise - anything not modern day messes with my head as far as financials and stats goes. The inaugural draft should be fun with scouting.

The MLB rosters always seem to have crazy statistical anomalies or things blowing up in them. I'm tempted to make a Reds franchise, but I might have to wait until patch #1 for some of the MLB roster issues to be ironed out and make a run with the Reds

I started a Historical league with the 1960 Yank's. My boyhood hero's Roger and Mick, who could ask for anything more. Cheers

I have a "historical fictional" league beginning in 1901. Basically, it follows a historical progress (teams, expansion, ballparks, etc...), but uses entirely fictional playeres. I like following the exploits of Cozy Steinfeldt, hist brother Wiley, Heinie Newton and Bones Zimmer. They're all on my New York Giants, which I manage (usually playing 1 game/week in single pitch mode and simming the rest).

It's a great way to play, in my opinion, and I recommend it for anyone who has an interest in historicals, but wants to start with a clean slate.

I started the 2k8 season that was provided after getting the appropriate PadresFan dls.

Great stuff. Just finished my first game with my White Sox losing a close home opener to those Indians.

The sounds and animations are terrific. How refreshing this game is. I actually heard the ball hitting the mitt with called balls so I'm getting ready to try and go into the MS sound program and make those sounds a little louder.

Thanks for an excellent game.

I'll getting a big ole' slice of American Baseball Association and loving every second of it! I decided to try it out before I imported my previous fictional league from OOTP8 and now I don't think I'll even bother with the import.

Really great job on this game and thank you for putting in a complete fictional league quickstart. I might give a current day MLB a try but for now...go Colonials!

This is an interesting thread. I like seeing just how many ways there are for us to create this baseball universe.

I'm personally proving what I knew all along. I'm taking the 2008 Reds, shipping out Corey Patterson so that he never gets a single at bat and certainly never leads off, and start with all this great new talent -- Cueto, Volquez, Votto, Bruce.

I'm a very harsh GM. You play based on immediate results. Griffey and Dunn are riding the bench. Norris Hopper will keep starting until he no longer is over .300.

Guess what: This team is a contender. I knew it. I knew this team was better than it is playing in reality. I knew that I should make $3 million per year for 3 years like Dusty Baker.

Currently playing 08 season with the A's. I added the all in one mod. I've played out all my games so far. I did retire Bonds and Clemens cause I didn't want to see them back in the game LOL!

I'll probably play this season out and then I'll start tinkering with a fictional league.

In OOTP 8 I created a league to track Ken Griffey, Jr.'s career had he not been so injury prone. I adjusted his umm... proneness... to be more like Ripken's just to see what would happen. I imported that over last night and have been playing that a little bit. I'd like to do the same with Sandy Koufax, or maybe start a league with Roberto Clemente as a rookie.

I like the idea of a fantasy draft. I don't think I've ever done that. :hmm:

I'm still trying to decide what league or two to stick with...but for now I'm giving the ABA quickstart a spin using the Atlanta Rebels.

Started with the fantasy draft....I'm definately leaning more towards offense...and youth. I have a coulpe of starting pitchers who should do very nicely with the offense we'll have here. For those using the ABA, my offense is built around Ken Robinson, Hank Harris, Phil Lynn, Jeff Jackson. My two starting pitchers I mentioned are Sean Carpenter and Ernest Dunn. Beyond that...the team is average to crappy. So far I'm 2-0....just started this morning (I'm off today )

The owner is expecting .500 out of this team...and I think that is doable.

I have a couple of other leagues I played with as well.

An import of an old online league I use to run (Around the Horn) that I had recently imported into OOTP 2007 (once I discovered I had a copy of it on a thumbdrive). Playing as the Braves of course....and so far went 2-2.

I've also imported a version of the MLB 2007 Fictional quickstart from OOTP 2007.

I started a MLB quickstart but couldn't decide if I could stomach being the Braves as is. Looking at them made me feel I'd either need to tweak some of the ratings or be a glutton for punishment. I might try what you did and do a Fantasy Draft.

Coverted my V8 USBL league. Its a 24 team league now with fictional players and teams and is going on its 10th year. I am trying to find a way to incorporate teams from other countries.

I have three options now:
1. Just add teams from Canada, MX, JP, EU etc and players can be from any country.
2. Add teams from those countries but limit their team foreign player limits so that each team is also a national representation or very close.
3. Create seperate leagues and mimic FIFA with the different divisions.

I created a historical league starting in 1945, but with cities from the Great Lakes region. I simmed out the first 24 years (taking time out for moving a floundering Madison franchise) and expansions in the early 60's (including a new Madison team that seems to be more supported, if not very successful) and then took over an expansion team in 1969. My first pick was Joe Niekro.

After a lot of injuries (including losing Gene Alley for his career) my team coasted to a second-worst-in-baseball finish, though with some optimism after Joe Hague won a couple Rookie of the Month awards (though lost Rookie of the Year by a wide margin). Then, after jerking me around for over 4 months, free agent Tony Oliva signed with Kenosha. Guess I'll have to build through the draft after all.

I've got 2 saves planned, and another that will inevitably happen at some point...

First, I'm moving over my v8 North West Baseball universe, and I think I am going to take over one of the poorer teams, having simmed 14/15 seasons in v8 in 'god' mode. I know most of the players so well now, to me it'll be almost like managing real life rosters!

Second, I have a small-town baseball historical universe all planned out and ready to create, hopefully to turn into a dynasty here on the boards.

And at some point I'm sure I will be playing a historical league starting in 1871.

I am so excited... the possibilities are endless!!

MLB structure but with fictional players. DH in both leagues, no interleague play. I selected the Braves as my team and held a fantasy draft. I let the computer run the complete draft and then deal with what my team selected.

My second league, which will probably take a good month of planning, will be sort of a Grand Campaign.

I'm going to create a universe centered around Michigan with several tiers of minor and independent leagues. My goal is to have every high school Class D or higher, every university and junior college represented as feeder teams, and have every single town with more than 1,000 people have at least one professional team of some sort (bigger cities may get several in different leagues)

I'm creating a new fictional league from scratch, like I did in 2007. Simulating about 40-45 years to generate some history, expanding and adding new leagues along the way, then I'm gonna take over an expansion team. Then I'm gonna get creative.

Also in an online MLB league.
