I'll be waiting for OOTP 10 or OOTP2009 I suppose as I've always waited 2 years to buy the next version since there's only tidbits every other year. Sorry to be this way but I can't see forking out $30 plus for just a few editions each year. Good luck with sales this year though and we'll see yah again next year. If it's any consolation though you got "PureSim Baseball" beat out by a long shot. I just got through testing out their most recent demo and it sucks. Ball animation is about the only thing I'd like to see in OOTP, but, the rest of that game totally looks noobish.

If you have version 8 do you need to buy version 9? Good I get to save money and won't have to buy the Game again intill the 11th Version comes out
It would be nice for a list of the new Features and Options going to be in it like for Spring Training and Minor League Team Contracts with a MLB Team You also going to wait for W. Studios Baseball-Shawn who did Puresim is helping them make a Baseball Game and Football Game to go up against Football Mogul,NFL Coach and so ob.

The obvious answer is that you are going to have to wait to see what OOTP9 offers and make up your own mind whether the enhancements are worth the price. Feel free to explain your reference to W. Studios Baseball and Football Game and what that has to do with the rest of your post. |

I'm amazed at the number of people who get on here and fuss about the product and the price. Paying $30 or $40 bucks for a new version is a pretty smokin' deal if you think about.
I got about four years worth of mileage from OOTP5, which averages out to probably less than a penny per hour of enjoyment. I waited awhile to upgrade just because of personal budget issues. I was content with what I had and didn't necessarily like what I was reading about some of the future updates, but I never got on here and ranted and raved about the company or what they charged. Just stuck with good ol' OOTP5 (until recently) and saved my $$$. This is still the gold standard for text-based management sims... keep up the good work guys... will I buy OOTP9? Perhaps, perhaps not. But if not, it's because I love what I've got now in OOTP8...

I will buy for sure, and am not one who wishes to "rush" the product out the door, but with beta testing so close, or even already taking place, I can't see the harm in giving us a list of proposed features and improvements??? If something might not make it in due to whatever reason, then just say, "hey feature X is up in the air, or even better yet, omit it from the list.
I'd like to hear more about scouting. Frankly I'm afraid about what Steve said about it being revamped. I'm afraid it could be going backwards rather than forward. To me it sounds like they are "simplifying it", which could mean you no longer assign scouts to specific tasks, and it could simply become much the way FOF handles scouting. $30.00 for the game is a steal.....$2.50 a month, less than the cost of a McDonald's double chesseburger and Medium coke ($2.60). I think the game is a bargain and there have been versions that I have bought, yet did not play, but I still feel I got my money's worth of game play.
I would love to see an option that costs $30.00 a year in a subscription. You pay the $30.00 and it is good for 12 months. During that time you get the newest version and all upgrades to that version and if a new version comes around during your subscription period you get that. If you decided not to renew then you just have the latest version without any upgrades or future versions. This will cost the same as buying the new version every year or 16 months but it will support the developers and will allow for better games in the future. To me it is no difference paying and then paying again the next year for the new version but this will allow people wanting to buy the game but deciding they should wait because of a new version. They could get the version in a subscription and then when the new version comes out (if within the 12 month period) they get the new version. It is a win-win situation for the game player who feels he gets something free, and a bigger win for the developer who keeps a steady cash flow of $30.00 a year from the game player. This would be ideal because it keeps revenue coming in for the developer in times when he is developing and not selling the product, and it benefits the game player because he realizes that if a new version comes out prior to 12 months from the date he makes his purchase he gets the new game. I personally would gladly do this. I have OOTP2007 now and would pay the subscription to move up to the latest version and for the next version that comes out within the year......after all I can afford to miss a double cheeseburger and soda once a month to get hours of enjoyment from this game.......

But I can also imagine the intense griping if it took more than a year to come out with a new game, and people complained about not getting their money's worth because of delays, etc.

How about a lifetime subscription for all the future releases for $100 ?
Bet that would fly! |

I notice the official response to the "This Forum is Dead" thread was to delete it, thereby making the forum seem even deader. LOL. Whatever. I am getting a good feel for whom we are dealing with here.

Actually it has found a new home in OT - which is probably where it belongs!

But, your analogy doesn't even come near to the point of not wasting money on something "I" don't NEED". It's like buying a years supply of garbage bags when you already have a years supply in storage. It's just pretty stupid to do so.

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't buy every game every year or two copies if you can afford it or whatever. Markus and Andreas, I am sure, appreciate every cent they get from us, and we in turn will likely appreciate the goodness that will come out over the next couple years from the increased competition. I'm just saying that comparing OOTP to garbage bags is, well, stupid.
