Exactly it doesnt even look like a game that was made in 2008,it looks to me like some old freeware 1994 edition, and I think for what they charge for FOF,it could be a lot better.

God this site blows. A thread about NFL Head Coach devolves into bitching about FOF in less than a page.

Action! PC Football 2008 comes out on 3/22/08. It has a bunch of new additions to it this time around. For me, Action! PC Football is the real thinking mans game since you can play games over the internet head to head calling every detailed play and player.
This is my opinion but I'm sure some might disagree. |

You can play it solo. I do all the time. The game will actually keep in it's memory what plays you call and to whom you give the ball to in certain downs and yards to go. It's more fun head to head, granted, but it's a fun solo replay game. The game also allows you to be the offense for both teams and the computer calls the defense for both, or the other way around too.

I'm in a few Action PC leagues and was in 2 FOF leagues, now down to one. I'll be ending my FOF league here after 1 more game, cause franckly, FOF is a crappy game to use for online leagues. Not even close to being as much fun as a Action PC League. To sum up, there's only one thing FOF does better than Action PC Football, and that is it has a built in career mode, where as with Action PC, you need to buy the next season, unless you are willing to create players to use in a draft. (Which I'd be willing to do to be able to use a far better game.) Last edited by kckid4u; 03-14-2008 at 02:51 AM. |

If by "accurate stats" you mean that the game is really close on yards per carry and receptions and so on, yes, I agree that it is. It's not so close at all on tackles and stuffs and yard per carry differential by line position, but we won't talk about those mom's-basement stats, I guess. I mean, really... who cares about defense? It's only half the game! It should also be mentioned that FOF is the kind of game that throws so many variables into the mix that it's not going to be that statistically accurate (if, again, by accuracy you mean "regurgitates the league-season in such a way that if you look at the numbers from the league and from profootballreference.com you will not be able to tell which is which"). I'm sure that roogames football thing is very statistically accurate as well. Actually, the roogames football thing is probably much more accurate statistically speaking than PC Action Football because it uses a simpler interface. Of course, by these same standards, APBA is far more accurate than OOTP. In OOTP you can load the Lahman database and run it and Barry Bonds could get hurt or just lose it as a player and hit 4 homeruns instead of 73. Whereas in APBA, he'll hit an average of 73 homers every time you replay his season. Accuracy <> realism. Give me realism over accuracy any day of the week. Quote:

Action PC Football might be better for online play. Call of Duty 4 is better for online play than OOTP is too.

Both games were designed for 2 very different styles. Jim didn't design FOF as a replay of current or past players and teams, nor did Dave try to create a career simulation with fictional players when creating Action. They both do well for what they were designed for. I play both and enjoy them for what they are. It's really apples oranges comparison.

If I assumed wrong, I'm sorry, but with the statements you made saying FOF is better, I just couldn't help it.
![]() I'll put it a better way as this discusion relates to me. (Which is all anyone can really do when you boil it all down.) I own both games, FOF and Action! PC Football...I have played both solo and taken part in online leagues....and, for ME, I have found Action! PC Football to be alot more enjoyable for both ways of playing. Hands down more enjoyable. With Action! PC Football, you can play games head to head against another human coach, and I have done so many times, and with that way of playing, I still find my heart pounding late in a game while the clock is ticking down to the last second and the game is on the line. To me, having my heart pounding like that tells me that that's a pretty damn good game. With FOF, the only body fuction it messes with is my eye lids. |

I agree with the sentiment about Bowl Bound. I just don't like college football, otherwise I'd play it more. I'm really hoping the pro version will be awesome.

Exceeeeeeuuuuussseee me? but this has nothing to do with anyone wanting Eye Candy. This is about Comparing What FOF has to what is standard in todays computer games,Standard. I hate to break it to you but with the Technology that is out there today the Developers of FOF could do a whole lot better with their product than what they have put out The way it looks right now,is the way NHL EHM looked back in it's freeware days almost, and trust me on this because I have even seen the old old old Freeware version of EHM,so I know. It just looks plain to me like FOF was a lazily coded game, like they just did not want to put the work into a decent interface for that game. Look at Bowl Bound,it has things in front of you like a weekly Checklist, which IMO is a godsend especially for Online Leagues so you don't forget to do anything before you export. The Play By Play screen is a lot better on Bowl bound too, with many more options to work with than FOF,its not just about the Eye Candy, but its also about how many options the player has to work with, and how they are presented. |
