We'll definitely know more in the next few days once the bulk of the betting is completed. It's just a little peculiar that the % would start dropping the week of the fight considering PBF was a huge favorite for the last month or so.

High profile fights are not fixed (very few, extremely few even club fight level are fixed to any degree).
Do judges have bias.....Sure. But no more so in boxing than in any other sports. Hell, a few years ago every NFL playoff game (in the 1st rd of playoffs) was decided by an error call by a Ref within the last 5 mins of each game..... (ref's / judges in all sports blow it!...and not because games are fixed). Fk. Look at that terrible pass interference call on Baltimore the other night ago...to help New England stay undefeated....(but that is another story......One where they should start making all offensive players in the NFL (at least QBs and WRs) wear skirts on the field.... Furthermore, plenty of times underdog money comes in late....(because it is a good buy if the line is big enough). Chalk bets are only for clear winners Vs no hopers...... |

Hope you are right meade .. but in a lot of cases the judges also know who hired them for the fight.
I'm sorry but there is absolutely no other explanation for Casamayor getting the win the other night than it was fixed. He clearly lost 10 rounds and got knocked down. No other way to see that one. |

Tell them my girl left me for a priest . . . and I got hit by a tractor . . then one of my limbs vanished overnight. That should work.

So, you need consoling. That angle might have some traction.
I'll have an answer by day's end. I am looking forward to Lacy-Manfredo too. I think the local boy may become a has-been after this fight but I'll be rooting for him.

I have seen Floyd stunned by Castillo who is much slower than Hatton, and also Demarcus Corley, who really isn't the puncher that Hatton is. I don't dislike Floyd at all in the ring. I think he ranks higher than Bert Sugar's all time p4p list has him at 95, but definitely not as high as some people have him. He's going to get tested against Hatton for sure. And that hasn't happened since the first Castillo fight...a looong time ago. I'm anxious to see how he responds. I still like Hatton early to mid rounds. And I don't think there will be any judges conspiring with DLH in a dark alley behind the MGM. If he was going to do that he could've got away with it for his own fight versus Floyd. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this one. |

This fight sold out in 30 minutes, 16,000 Brits (a small army) are coming to Vegas - the next person who says boxing is dead should be slapped!
I have to say from what I've read, Hatton sure seems loose & might be getting under Floyd's skin. Floyd rattled Oscar & made him mad, he got in his head & probably caused Oscar to expend too much energy early trying to knock out Floyd. |

What was up with Hatton's face on ESPN ... looked like he'd already been in a fight.

Mayweather-Hatton
Count me among those who are expecting this to be a pretty even fight. The wager I love is the will go. I will be stunned if this does not go the distance.
As for the result, I am going for Floyd by split decision. Moreover, given the styles of the two fighters, I am guessing it will be a controversial split decision. Jeff |

Again, I see Hatton by KO in 5 to 8 (and I bet on 7).
Now, I know that styles make fights and all of that, but you are only as good as your last fight, correct? Kenny Bayless (Mr. Bayless) was my P.E. Instructor at William E. Orr Middle School. He also officiated my first amateur fight. I love the guy and have followed him because of that (it makes me feel somewhat connected to this great sport/aside from this horrible town that I grew up in). But he has had awful trouble being overly cautious in the pro ranks. And that is my opinion as well as others. My favorite referee would have to be Steve Smoger. And if he was in place of Mr. Bayless last May 5th, I believe there would have been a different outcome in the fight. This is professional Boxing--not amateur Boxing. I judged amateur fights in Vegas until about 8 years ago when I had work commitments. It is a different game than the pros. Mayweather wins in an amateur style in the pro ranks. He can touch someone more than the next guy. That isn't pro Boxing. That is amateur... If Hatton loses to Mayweather by KO, I am an idiot. But I don't think that Mayweather has what it takes to KO anyone for the rest of his career, let alone v Hatton. Chavez "Black Mamba" replay, anyone? |

Pro or amateur boxing the main idea behind the sport is to hit without being hit. Mayweather does that better than anyone in the sport right now.
Smoger will get someone killed in the ring before long. He lets fights go on way too long. While there is always the "he didn't stop the Pavlik-Taylor fight and see what happened" crowd there are 50-60 fights that he should have stopped for that one exception. |

Punch Stat numbers about "punches landed" are useless because the stat itself is often ridiculously subjective.....(go look at some of the Olympic scoring....where clear punches landed aren't counted...and clearly missed shots are counted.....It is the same "punch stat" basically we see in Pro-stats often being hyped). Reality is RG, Punches landed, power shots landed are all asepcts of how a fight (or round) should be judged. If you land 20 pitty-patt shots but run for the round....while the other guy presses the fight and dictates the pace...and lands 12 power shots and a few pitty pat shots.........The guy landing the less number of blows (but of more substance) should win the round.....(even though the other landed more and made the other miss more). |

I agree but the #'s are almost never that close in a PBF fight. Also I'm not convinced that PBF throws pitty-pat punches. I just think he is at a weight where his power just isn't there.
I also don't think Floyd runs at all. Any time he uses ring movement people accuse him of running (not you Meade because I know you like him). It's a MMA fan base out there that doesn't understand the rules of boxing. It's not to stand toe to toe and slug it out until one guy falls. |
