Nation Problem
I am creating a league where I want players from a few select countries. Is there any way to create a league with the nations selected beforehand.

Other than the one parent nation for your league, no. Foreigners will come in from random countries. You could edit the nations.txt to have only so many countries in your universe, although I've never done that.

another question
Is it possible for me to delete all the players at once or rapidly to cleanse the league of unwanted players?

You can 'release all players to free agency', followed by 'delete all free agents'. Some people claim this doesn't get rid of everyone, leaving some minor leaguers behind. Others seem to think it works fine. It's easy, so it's certainly worth a try, and it'll absolutely get rid of most.

Hmmm...
It should in theory be possible to delete all players from a certain nation (or at least force them into an early retirement!). I'll add that to my list of things to try and program. That's got me wondering though. I presume that after the draft class is announced all the players will appear in players.dat - and it shouldn't be too tricky to find the 'draft eligible' ones and alter their nations/names to a selected list/frequency of nations (user choice) Last edited by Tony M; 05-07-2007 at 05:01 AM. |

What I've done before is, during the initial setup and for each draft class afterwards, sort the players by nationality and edit the ones I don't want out.
But if you want to run a whole universe that only has guys from select nations, that's much easier. You just edit the nations.txt and set all other countries to the lowest setting.

The way I did it in my Greek league (which had some players from Turkey and Albania) is by using multiple college feeder leagues that are based in the countries you want with no foreigners allowed.

Why not create a new nation in the nation.txt file, copy the cities in the ciities .txt file to the end of the file and give them the new nation id. The only thng is that you won't have a way to control which nationality gets drafted by a team but you will be assured that all players are from the nation(s) you select. Make sure to set foreigner to 0, also no FA foreigners and one that bit me was DRAFT Class foreigner pct....
This will work for you. I do it with my Wisconsin League. and I am starting a Midwest League in the future.... |

Well I think I solved my problem of sorts. I created a small league, deleted all the players, then set the desired nations. I followed up by loading up my leagues template. This succeeded in creating the desired effect even though it was a bit tedious to modify some one hundred nations. Seems like there are many ways around the problem if you are familiar with the user's interface. Thanks for the help.

nations.txt
I've played with the nations.txt file a fair amount and if you're just starting a league, it works great.
Save the original under a different name for later use, but then just delete out the countries you don't want in your league. That way, going forward, it will always create draft pools the way you want them. You will probably have to make a few tweaks to the Baseball Level in the file to make the results come out the way you want. For example, I set up a Soviet Patriot Baseball League, leaving Cuba in the nations file. Their baseball level was so high, that almost all of the players were Cuban (which was not my intent). p. 484 in the manual talks about the file. p.489 has the Baseball Level meanings. So far, I have created an Irish & British Isles League, a Soviet satellite league (the names were getting hard to remember) and an All-Europe league... |
