Advice for using/messing around with jersey templates?

I'm wondering if anyone has some advice on how to go about using the jersey templates I've downloaded-- and maybe save me some floundering time. What I am assuming right now is that I'm going to have to open the templates in GIMP (or whatever), make whatever mods I want, such as color, then save-as the jersey for a particular team.

Is there a better way? Where would I load a new template if I didn't want it to replace any of the existing ones?

Download my jersey styles.
Assuming you are using XP, extract to your My Documents/SI/OOTP2007/data/jerseys

For nomenclature, read the .txt file attached to the zip file.

Open the game and you can change the jersey by selecting the jersey style pull down in the bottom left of the uniform edit page.
