3066 - Repeating error, then crash
I am having an error that may possibly cause a later crash, but that is not clear. The error is "add_line_to_txt_file: Could not open target file for writing:league_102_transactions.txt"
This error occurs periodically. When it happens it occurs multiple times. The league number changes. The first time I kept hitting return and the game closed. Last time it went away after a bunch of returns, but it came back after my first game when I was trying to save the game, I then got a windows execution error on OOTP and all was lost. I checked and the files mentioned exist in the data directory and have text in them, and once I have cycled through the error they later get updated without any errors. I can play the game and save frequently, but this is a major pain. Thoughts? Edit: A bit more data -- Looks like this seems to happen on the 1st of the month. Doesn't always cause a crash. I wanted to bump this because I am having the same error.
Twice I have simmed using fictional players over 30 seasons to get some league history, trying to sim from 1946 to 2007. Both sims have stopped with an error message similar to jwstren, something to do with not being able to write text to team xxx. Bad thing is after clicking the message 897 times to make it go away the game crashes to desktop. Reload the game and try to load the main league screen and it gives me an error about not being able to load template. Does this on every screen, leaving the league useless. |

Just read in the Common Problems thread that this problem is supposed to be caused by changing the data path. I have not changed the data path and it is still happening. League loads fine but anything I click on gives me a load template error.

Can you guys let me know a few things?
1. What OS are you running? 2. What drive/directory did the game install your data to? By default, this would be C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data Thanks! Steve |

Sure thing battists,
Windows XP Home Edition Default installation Running a 2.4 Celeron 512 ram I go to the My Documents OOTP2k7 folder and I see the templates in the templates folder, actually even pasted them in to the league folder and a few other places hoping the game might find them, no luck. My league will play until it either needs to write something to text or load a template. Just wish there was a way to backup the league while simming several seasons at time, or at least an option to save the league with alternating save names. I am running a 24 team, 3 division, 5 level of minors league using SkyDogs settings. Also I am using the try and buy download version, thinking about uninstalling and downloading the regular file. I am running Windows XP Professional on that machine
Path is: C:\Users\02JOS\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\saved_games\New Game 2.lg\news\txt\leagues In my case it seems to work sometimes but fail others. But there seems to be something about the first of the month, I will know more when I sim through the next month. |

I've pasted this from an earlier thread, because I seem to be having a similar problem:
Version: 2.0.0.037 PC/MAC: PC XP Professional Path: It started doing this in the 'default' path set by the installation of the game. It carried on doing this even after I changed the path to c:/OOTP2007 as outlined in another thread. What were you doing? Sim a whole bunch of seasons to get some history. What happened? After simming a 32 team fictional league, full minors and 48 Col and HS teams for about 14 years I got the following message: 'add_line_to_txt_file-could not open target file for writing:team_192_injuries.txt' The game then crashed. When I restarted, It crashed without any home pages templates being found. So, I cleared the contents of the news txt folders (teams, leagues, and players), as I did when a similar problem happened with 2006, and restared the game. I simmed a further 14 years, then the same problem. (a similar message to this, with the name of the txt file different) add_line_to_txt_file-could not open target file for writing:team_192_injuries.txt. I cleared the 3 folders again, restated 2007, the same problem after 13 or 14 further years). So, I cleared the league off my hard drive, and set up a similar league. Same thing all over again. Reproducible? Yes Problem occurs with other leagues? Yes My CPU is an AMD Sempron 2600+, with 1 gb memory, 65 gb left on my HD. The same kind of issue happened with 2006, especially with the earlier builds.

Could one of you please upload one of these leagues to our FTP site, using these instructions?
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=142100 We just need the .dat file. Make sure you come back here and tell us what the file name is! |

Simulation "add line to txt file" error
In 07, I just started to simulate a few games, but after a few days I got a message saying:
"add_line_to_txt_file - could not open target file leagues/log_40.txt for writting" As soon as I press enter, another pops up. So I press enter, and log 40 changes into 41, then 42... I just downloaded the game today. This problem did not occur in the first few games simulated, but stared to after a few days worth. After a few of these messages, the game then crashed and I lost my file. Any idea of what might have caused this error message? ...attatched is a screen shot. |

shefffred2.zip
I tried sending it earlier, but it cut out before it was finished. The file you can delete is called shefffred.zip.

As indicated in my previous post, I have ftp'd my .dat files to you, although they probably won't tell you much.
Since then, I tried setting up a different league and run some history on it. It was a different sized league (smaller) but, alas, the same error occured. The interesting things about this are three fold: 1. The total size and number of files in the news folders had become a similar one to that previously seen during these crashes. 2. Deleting only a few files from one of these folders allowed the game to carry on, albeit for only a short time. 3. Deleting most or all files, whilst retaining the folders, allowed things to carry on for quite a while. Conjecturing the cause: A limit to the number and/or total size of files in these folders. Is this set by the game? Or by the OS? I'll let your professional judgement and abilities to decide. Thanks.

This issue has been claimed fixed in the first patch, but we haven't had a chance to verify it yet.
Thanks! |
