Rumours are that Man City are going to fire Stuart Pearce and bring in Peter Reid as a stop gap until they find a longterm manager, this is the same Peter Reid who in the early 90's took Man City to 5th, 5th and 9th in his 3 years in charge and then fired him after think it was 3 or maybe 6 games of the 93/94 season because they had a bad start, I'd tell them where to go if I was him.

Mike Newell has been fired by Luton Town, personally think he's been fired because he was outspoken and not where Luton are in the league seeing he was forced to sell 5 of his best players, if you take 5 of the best players from any team your going to struggle.

The penalty shootout idea to end ties is a bad idea
Teams would play for ties even more than they do now and then hope for the best in a shootout
A better idea would be a 30 minute golden goal extra period for the full three points
Then it teams were still tied after 120 minutes then it ends in a tie
Sudden death OT would add some excitment to the game and maybe stop teams from playing for so many ties

You need something in cup games as there as to be a winner somehow, whether it be to go into the next round or actually win the final but see no reason at all for draws to be scrapped from league play, some of the best games I've seen have been draws were both teams deserve to get something out of it and no team deserves to lose.

Anybody gets the chance they should watch the Alkmaar v Newcastle game, should be a cracker as Alkmaar need 2 goals and Newcastle can't defend so don't expect them to be defensive, if the first leg is anything to go by it could end up a goal fest so expect a 0-0

Sevilla Keeper Scores off Corner, Rescues UEFA Cup Tie

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=214763&cc=5901

Keeper Palop forces extra time by heading in the equalizer during injury time; Sevilla goes on to win with a goal from Chevanton in the first half of added time.

First time I've heard of a goalie scoring on a non-free kick/penalty kick situation. Maybe it's actually worth it in FM to bring him up for corners late in the match.

Why not keep on playing Golden Goal until someone scores?

When Wigan used to play at Springfield Park years and years ago you used to be able to get programmes from a programme stall, there was a lad at the JJB who did it but not seen him for ages and by all accounts last I heard he was in hospital.

Most of the programmes find there way on ebay though so kind of killed a part of footballing history as most teams used to have someone selling old programmes at the ground, some probably still do but will be lower league clubs.

England squad a load of bs yet again, second best rated left back not in the squad again oh but wait he doesn't play for a fashionable club, whats the betting if Baines leaves Wigan in the Summer that he'll be in an England squad minutes later. If Phil Neville is better than Baines then no wonder England can win jack, only player you can really say is from an unfashionable club is Bent from Charlton.

Best league in Europe must be the English Championship where about 10 teams could still get promoted and about 10 teams could still get relegated leaving only probably Colchester Utd, Sheff Wed, Plymouth and Coventry City with nothing to play for.

LONDON (Reuters) - Chelsea warned their fans on Friday against throwing celery during matches, saying it was a criminal offence and that anyone caught lobbing the popular salad vegetable could be banned.
But their aliases will still be let in.

By all accounts it's been going on for 20 years, bit slow on trying to stamp it out no wonder they've never caught the Ripper if that's how quick the powers that be work in London.

Bit off topic for a second, had my most fun game of FM last night, was losing 4-3 after the first leg in the semi final of the League Cup against Arsenal and won the second leg 2-0 to make the agg score 5-4, go onto play Fulham in the final and could win my first ever trophy in English football.

I got my second warning from the FA and was told by the Wigan board to keep quiet bit surprising and unrealistic coming from probably the most outspoken Chairman in the Prem in Dave Whelan.

The England goalie Paul Robinson did the same in a League Cup game when he was at Leeds against Swindon in exactly the same situation. A headed goal in added time that made it 2-2, and they then went on to win in extra time.

Not every manager can be a Mourinho - that's the whole point of lower league football surely.
Sometimes you have to sell players to survive, but surely as a manager you've got to get on with it. IMO it doesn't excuse their awful run of form - something like 12 points since October.
And look at how badly he managed their FA Cup game against Liverpool last season - he's not a very good manager IMO.

Congrats!!

The disciplinary system is the same for all clubs. Imagine how hard it would be to make team specific discipline given the thousands of teams in the game.

But the lower down the league you go the easier it is to replace players, when you get to the heights of the Championship and Premiership it's asking alot for a team to lose 5 of it's best players and still think their going to perform at the same level as a team.

He sold something like £9,000,000 worth of talent and spent £1,000,000 and for the Championship your only going to head in one direction and that's down, he took over in 2003 just before they went into recievership and has taken them into the Championship and put them on a solid foundation financial wise so although not a great manager imo he's a decent manager just too outspoken for his own good but to be honest if were truthful he's only said the truth aka most players who do dive are foreign players, there is corruption within football with agents and so on.
