T.O. & Philly. Two great tastes that taste great together...
Link: http://cbs.sportsline.com/columns/story/9709293
Hack Mike Freeman writes a touchy-feely column about how you need to feel a little sorry for T.O. and how horrible those mean Philadelphia fans are to opposing players. After all, poor little innocent T.O. did nothing to deserve the scorn and occassional insults that will be flying in his direction this week. As I read this column I thought of that kid in elementary school who wrote down the names of the kids who talked while the teacher was out of the room. He closed with this: Quote:
And the problem is what exactly? They set up in a place where they're open to obnoxious fans and they received exactly what you could expect them to get. But it's the fault of the Philly fans and certainly not the folks at ESPN who set up where they set up. Certainly can't fault the professional broadcaster who used profanity to tell them off, right? It's all on the fans! We're talking about a bunch of guys...maybe even drunken idiots if you wish...yelling at someone. They weren't hitting them, throwing things, etc. They were just yelling at them. Sports fans yelling. What a novel concept. If they throw crap at the players or anything that could harm the players or the media then fine...throw their butts in jail. If they're using tons of profanity and refuse to stop when told to stop then boot 'em. (They were warned.) But come on...it's football and not the ballet. |

Philly fans are some of the worst fans I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I've been to a lot of visiting ball parks, but I've never been in such a hurry to leave as I was when I went to Veterans Stadium.

It's funny hearing NY fans comment on this when they treat their best player worse than Philly treats the mosted hated players on rival teams.

As for the incident the article was talking about, I don't care where it is. The fans who acted like idiots ARE to blame. Just to clarify since we've had others stereotype in this thread already, "Philly fans" aren't to blame. The morons who specifically were mentioned in the article are.

And the problem is what exactly? The Eagles acquired a player whose history of running his mouth and being a disturbance was well known before then, and they received exactly what you could expect them to get. But it's the fault of Owens, and certainly not Eagles ownership or the fans who clamored for him, for what ensued afterward. GH |

If I had the chance, I'd put my fist through Joe Buck's stupid little face.
How can anybody in their right mind get on TO for being mad his team is losing? Did anybody ever act this way when Paul O'Neill would destroy things in the dugout? Owens is a gamer and always has been. He's mad at his quarterback for what he perceives as a terrible throw. It's not like he just went to a reporter and said "Bledsoe is terrible, they need to put in Romo!" The thing is, Bledsoe is a tough quarterback. He can take TO getting mad, especially if TO is right. Unlike, you know, Donovan McNabb who is a total bleeding you-know-what who cries to the coach when the best player on the team tells the truth. Last edited by JDOldSchool; 10-08-2006 at 08:31 PM. |

McNabb has been and will always be the best player on that team. Get a clue about the Eagles. |

I hope TO thoroughly enjoyed watching Donnie Football throw for 350 yards and 2 TD's. If it weren't for about 6 drops he would have thrown for nearly 500 yards.

McNabb accounted for as many TD's as Owens did catches.Oh, and as for McNabb crying about the "best player on the team" "telling the truth"... McNabb has arguably been the MVP of the league so far this season. Owens hasn't even been among the top 20 players at his own position. Hell, he hasn't even been the best receiver on his new team. Clearly though, Owens was awesome and made the Eagles, not a distraction who tore the team apart. |

McNabb is not a hall of famer, Owens is. Owens might be a jerk off the field, but McNabb is a joke of a team leader. He needs to grow a pair and deal with a loud mouth like Owens. |

McNabb get tired of T.O. bitching and moaning because he only caught 7 passes or that TO threw him under the bus after the Super Bowl. To say that EVERYONE liked T.O. and that it was McNabb who got him kicked off the team is ridiculous. You should have followed that situation closely. Some members of the defense were for him staying on the team because it made their job easier, that doesn't mean they liked T.O. Every member of the offense that had to deal with him on a daily basis couldn't stand him (with the exception of maybe LJ Smith). McNabb is a "solid qb"? McNabb is a hall of fame QB whether you like him or not so I don't know why you just say "solid" as if to take a jab at him or why you think TO is a HoF lock while McNabb has no chance. He's the best QB in the NFC and has been for the last 5 years. I doubt a player has ever been the best QB in his conference for a period of 5 or more years and not made the Hof. |

The other guys on the team liked Owens? If things played out the way you suggest with the Eagles having no beef with Owens, and Owens being a much better player than McNabb, guess what? Owens would have been the one to stay. It would be hard to truthfully tell what players thought of each other, as outside of Owens who'll say whatever the hell he feels like, other players know how to talk to the media and not badmouth their own teammates. Hell, if you saw after today's game the interview with McNabb, he handled that professionally. Owens isn't even on the team anymore, he has no reason that he couldn't have lobbed a number of jabs at him, especially after he dominated him in his performance in today's game, but he didn't do that. When asked about Owens, he just shrugged off the importance of beating Terrell to him, made note about winning an important game against a strong cowboys team, credited his teammates, and didn't say a negative word about anyone. He has that thing... what's it called again... Owens has none of it... oh. Right. Class. Most of the Eagles organization has this, which is why the owner has publicly stated he regretted signing TO since he didn't fit into this mold. And since the team has it, they will not go to the media saying "Ya, we hate that Terrell guy. I'm glad he's suspended." You don't know who thought what. I'm sure some liked him around. I'm sure some loathed him. And I'm sure the majority probably saw the situation deteriorate and hoped more than anything that there'd be a way to patch things up. But Owens continued to cause trouble within the organization. A team will not suspend their best player for fighting with someone who's not a team leader for a season. As for abandoning the team when he got hurt? This is a guy who played a game on a broken ankle and threw 4 TD passes. This is a guy who played 13 games with a sports hernia to try to do what he could to keep the team afloat. This is a guy who during the super bowl was almost vomiting but tried his best to win the game. Owens, on the other hand, is a guy who criticizes the team leader for not playing perfectly while he was injured, then when he finds a new team, angers management by refusing to play through an injury doctors said he could play through. So wait... who's abandoning the team when they're hurt? And you say that McNabb is not a hall of famer with such certainty, while Owens is a lock. You're right about the second part, but why the hate for McNabb? Neither have ever won a super bowl. Both, otherwise, have tremendous statistics. Both are among the best at their position. Anyway, I'm just happy to see that last year was Owens' fault and things are back on track for the Eagles this year. After a 6-10 season and no major upgrades I was worried, but sometimes the biggest upgrade you can make is a healthy McNabb, and getting TO the hell off your team. |

It's called CLASS, guys like McNabb and Brian Dawkins have it, T.O. thinks it's something he occassionally attended at UT Chatanooga.
Guys like Jon Runyan couldn't hold their tongues though, calling T.O. a jackass, I didn't know that was a term of endearment? Yeah he was loved.
