I made a realization last night that in many ways, Macha does it right. His two best relievers this year have been Duchscerer and Kennedy, and they're technically just set-up men. But I can't think of too many situations where Street is pitching in "Best reliever available" situations when Duke and Kennedy are both sitting in the bullpen still. I'm sure it's not intentional, but it's worked.

Marco Scutaro is freakin' amazing.

dola,

well, that walk = ballgame.
then crain gave up a big hit there.

CRAIN? WTF?!? Gardenhire has been terrible all year, and that's the end of it. The only thing Gardenhire can do now to redeem himself is to have Crain start hitting batters. Time to go for attrition...injure as many A's as you can!

The Twins should be at least be grateful that this ump is horrible. I don't think Crain has thrown a pitch over the plate yet.

He's not even an A's fan.

Besides, this is a series thread. Those who are rooting for the A's are allowed to be happy here.

As of earlier this year, Rickey hadn't filed the needed formal retirement papers with the league. So as far as MLB is concerned, I believe, he's not retired.

If Oakland loses this game/Series, this will have been the biggest meltdown ever.

In fairness, Crain did the job... Morneau just botched it.

But this is why I hate managers... Nathan is the logical choice to enter there. He's their best reliever, 1st and 2nd with 2 outs, an Oakland run basically ends any hope... and they wind up giving up 4, with Nathan never leaving the bench. Awesome.

Thank you. I also wasn't trying to be a-holish about it. I was just pretty much stating a my how I thought the game would go that was pointed out would probably happen.

Is there some kinda retroactive retirement? Is it five years from last game, five years from last time on a major league roster (for a guy like Canseco who was in ST with a team, released, then retired)? Or is it five years from time of filing the papers.

I feel like its retroactive. I could be very wrong though.

This just came up here in NY after Torre said Mariano will only be used one inning a game this postseason. Someone brought up whether that could mean Mariano in the 8th if the situation called for it. Beat reporter's response was that Torre would never consider that.

Why the hell not? If the hyped Subway Series were to happen, Yanks up one, Mets send Beltran, Delgado and Wright up in the 8th...do you really save Mariano to pitch to Cliff Floyd, Shawn Green and Jose Valentin? That's just absurd.
