I'd wager a week was fair if you could play the demo during the time period past the all-star break (i.e. try the game over a full season +)

As I have always said, use one or the other (time limit or limited functions-not both). You suggestion works IMO if I understand it correctly...

Sure, no problem, you're free to buy what you want to.
Nevertheless I had to smile about "I won't pay for it on principle", too... better just don't pay for it because you don't like it
We'll keep on trying to change your opinion about the game.

Surely the sensible course of action would be to address the persons concerns.
If you want to accuse someone not to address somebody's concerns, then better don't accuse Marc or anybody else here please That's more than unfair.

If there are concerns, just post them as constructive criticism, and we will take care of them!

Ahhhh. I was wondering if we'd ever see anybody claim they have "principles" for not buying a computer game. It's like reading anti-EA rants at GameFAQs.

I suppose this may be better suited in a different subject... but... since I mentioned it in my post above and it is in line with the demo I will through it out here.

The initial demo was very slow on my pentium III. Do you think the new patches will improve the speed of simulation? Additionally, I am near the end of my memory - if I shed some of the applications on my computer to free space on my hard drive would that improve the speed? Or is speed more independant of ram and processor?

Thanks - this board is clearly more computer educated than myself...

What is the build number of the demo you are using. The most recent patches do improve the memory usage of the game.

I have the initial demo that was good for two weeks. But it is locked right now until they have a solution.

It is good news to hear that the speed is faster though. I also found a post or two that said they were able to run the game on a Pentium II.

Any idea if clearing space on my hard drive would help as well? Or is that really not a factor?

Thanks

League files can quickly hit 300 MB.

Have lots of spare space.

So true...

Because of space I don't keep game logs or box scores. But my question is more - does the amount of free space on my hard drive affect the speed of simulation?

As for the bad rep, please feel free to share these messageboards.
I don't see the problem. He understands that keeping your wallet in your pocket is a more persuasive means of proving a point than complaining on a board.

SI would feel a lot more pressure to come out with a bug-free product in 2007 if more people had kept their wallets closed. Money talks. As is, IN THEORY, they know they can come out with something that can be patched over 2 months as long as they leave some "extras" on the side that can be added to appease the masses during those 2 months. If they knew they simply wouldn't get sales if they did this, they'd crack the whip a little more and be that much more careful.

The laughable part here is the SI Marketing guru dismissing this concept so offhandedly.

Thats the thing, I am a firm believer in the principle of you not buying a game if you do not want to. I cannot force anyone (we try to make the demo available to all to see if it's something they like and want to play more)

What made me laugh in the original post was the way in which it was worded, it made me think of politics. So stamp all over me if you like, but thats what I found funny.

Back to the demo time. Been away for a few days and hoped that this issue would be solved. Again, disappointment. Mark, any extension is better than what we have now so I am all for your option. Also, as Claymore said a double limit demo really makes no sense to me. But I know you guys have made your decision on that so all I am concerned about is getting a chance to see if the game has improved to the point that I can enjoy it. I couldn't enjoy it when it first came out but now, who knows. I know 2 things for sure: 1) is that barring some way to take a look at the game again with all of the "improvements", this will be the first time in many years that OOTP has not got my money, and 2) is that I have learned my lesson and will not rely on the good will or reputation this game had built up for me in the past when I decide on any future purchases. In the past if it was OOTP, that was 'nuff said, find credit card and buy. No more, you will have to sell me back to that level of trust. The way it looks around here, that process won't begin until the 2007 version.

I agree that adding a little time might help. I think a week to 10 days would be sufficient. I too would like to see how the new improvments make the game that much better as people are talking about. I also did not have a chance to look at the game with the Lehman database, something that I was curious at looking at. As far as why I haven't bought yet, streching the wallet is one thing with two kids, but another has been just being able to put the proper amount of time into the game so that I can really decide whether or not it is for me. Thanks for letting me speak my two cents worth about it.

Yes. The less you have free, the slower you game will run, as your CPU will borrow hard drive space to run things if you don't have enough memory free, or if you are running more than one program while playing OOTP 2K6.

(surfing the web, messenger programs, applications, other games, etc..)

If you don't have a lot of free HD space left you will run into issues with gameplay and speed of simulation.
