Question Visit Mound Option

This option is discussed on page 312 of expanded manual.

"Manager visits mound to calm player down".

1. Limited to one visit per inning?

2. Is some portion of the pitcher's fatique restored?

3. Any influence based upon the manager's abilities to handle rookies, vets, etc?

4. Any influence based upon pitcher's intelligence, etc.?

5. Cosmetic only?

Is it an advantage for human teams over AI teams to use visit mound option?

I have yet to use this feature. Do either the Pitcher or Catcher give you feedback on what the Pitcher still has left in the tank?

The two responses I've had from the pitcher when I've visited the mound are (roughly) "I'm fine, go away and let me pitch" and "I can keep going, but it's your call". It'd be nice if the catcher could give you his take too.

Oh, and you can only do it once per inning, I think.

EDIT - Another thing I think would be useful would be to get some feedback between innings on how your pitcher feels - rather than having to wait for him to give up several walks...

if you visit your pitcher twice in the same inning, that pitcher MUST be taken out of the game at the 2nd visit (MLB rules).

Which, I assume is why it only lets you do it once - the second visit is built in to your substitution. It'd be cool if a comment was made about it in the pbp when you did this.

I agree. If you take away the pitcher's name turning red when he's tired it would be nice to be able to have some occasional input on his condition.

on the SION Brodcast page, if you hit the link that says Show pitchers, it does give you some information, current pitch count and the like, and has a thing that is suppose to tell you his status, unfortanly I've only ever seen this say OK in blue (granted I've only played out like 30 games so a larger sample size may be needed to get it to change from OK.)

I did actually have one pitcher telling me something to the effect "I'm beat, get me the heck out of here." I think I overextended him a bit, although he was still doing okay.

In 6.5 I mostly used the "visit mound" feature to buy time for my bullpen to warm up. Access to the pitcher's condition in 6.5, like in OOTP2006, is always just a couple clicks away.

So at this point, with no bullpen warmup possible for human players, I think it's mainly cosmetic. But maybe eventually Markus will restore bullpen warmups, in which case the "mound visit" option becomes helpful again.

Honestly, I haven't looked at this aspect of the game. But in 6.5 it was not an uncommon practice, at least for me, to keep an eye on pitcher's velocity as the innings ensued. When I observed it noticeably dropping below his lower ranges, particularly on fastballs, I'd utilize a quicker hook.

Is this verifiable? Excellent eye...I'll keep a watch on that next time I play and see if there's a correlation.

While this is true, I think there's still something not quite correct in the game. The rule states " A second trip to the same pitcher in the same inning will cause this pitcher’s automatic removal." However, it seems I can only visit the mound once per inning in OOTP 2006. Even after I have brought in a new pitcher, the "visiting the mound" option does not come back to me.

I think that the second visit is implied by the substitution. I know what you're saying though, it would be a nice touch to be able to get the pitcher's reaction when you take the slow walk out for the second visit.
