Angry Minor League Free Agents

Has anyone experienced the phenomenon, at the end of a season, of looking at your player salary report from the front office page, noticing who is going to become a minor league free agent, signing those players to a minor league extension, rerunning the player salary report to ensure that you have re-signed the correct players, continuing to the next season, only to discover that the minor league players that you re-signed are now free agents?

It's causing me to turn off minor league free agency, which takes away the realism, as now I'm forced to "dump" players that I don't want any longer, rather than just letting their minor league contract expire. I've lost a number of great prospects because of this...

Thanks

In order to keep minor league free agents you must place them on your 40 man roster. The game in this case is following Major League rules. So at the end of each season you need to review your rosters and decide if the minor league FA's belong on your 40 man.

Unless your team is totally stacked you probably only add 3 to 5 guys per year. Let's face it if someone is in your minors long enough to get free agency without being on your 40 man roster, they are probably not that good.

I like the rule especially in online leagues. It prevents teams from hoarding players.

As the previous post says - they have to be on your 40-man roster to keep them. Real players in MLB do not agree to minor league contract extensions. They become 6-yr free agents or re-sign with the team after becoming a FA first. The game handles this correctly IMO. That it allows you to give minor league extensions to players on minor league contracts is a bit of a glitch.

Nevertheless, it is fairly ******ed that the game totally misleads you into believing that you have them signed to a contract extention on both their player page and the salary report. There should be some popup explaining what exactly happens.

Well you both have a point. The rule is spelled out in the financial setup screen, but I think the mlc offer should come back with something like, "can't offer mlc to this player". or "put player on 40 man roster".

I missed a few before I figured it out.

I agree - something like that would be helpful.

It might be nice if it worked like the rule 5 and had the pound sign (#) on the transaction page. Maybe some other symbol to notify you that he will be eligible for FA if not on 40 man. Actually, it may do that I'm not sure. anyone know for sure if mlc FA's show as a # in the transaction screen?

I had an issue where a player of mine was becoming a free agent at the end of the year who had a major league contract and on my 40 man roster and 25 man roster some of the year - he was signed to a mlc extension only to become a free agent at the end of the year regardless

How much major league service time did he have in his career? If he has 6 years (1032 days) of major league service and you don't give him a major league contract then he will become a FA. Would be nice if when you offered the mlc that a player would give you the "no thanks I'll test the market" response since the mlc won't keep him on your team. But if you think about it IRL he would never take the mlc offer while he still had a chance to catch on with another major league club via free angency. More than likely if he didn't catch on with a major league club in the FA period he could still go back and get a mlc with someone.

Now if you don't think it's a case of service time then post his player card and someone can probably tell why he was a FA. Might also want to put in what version you are running.

he's sitting in the FA pool and willing to take a mlc contract too - it's Darren Dreifort with the real file - He's had over 6 years of Major League service time - I was unfamiliar with that rule - but I know it now
