Best OOTP Leagues on the Net

Is there a list? Has a "vote" of some sort ever been taken? I'd be curious to see which leagues (especially MLB based ones) come out on top.

I've seen some leagues with Rule V drafts, compensation, even live radio shows but I've still never seen a league that "has it all." And I mean...ALL.

Just curious.

and with next to no real way to judge what leagues are better than others, it seems pointless to me.

I couldn't disagree more. Leagues are anything but the same.

when did I say they were the same? There is just no real way to judge every single league out there to decide the 1 and only allmighty "best". Who is to say this league is better than that league? This sort of thing is really futile IMO.

I never said "you said" anything. I was implying that it should be easy for people to form opinions/polls about certain leagues and rate them in different categories (Most Like MLB...most unique (opposite MLB) etc).

When I visit a league I can tell within 2 minutes whether or not it's a good league and one that would be worth investing personal time into.

This is sort of like the Barry Bonds vs Babe Ruth argument. Very popular, but very subjective

The best league is usally the one that survives the longest, look at leagues in their 7-8-10+ seasons with full owners page, also look at how long guys been in the league.

The Best FBPRO league is one that is still running in its 18th season ( 8 years real time ) and 75% of the owners are original.

Best BBPRO league had ran 14-15 seasons before it shut it doors.

OOTP...I am fairly new but who been around a while? CDL seems to have very few openings in its long tenor.

Good leagues last a long time....

Eric Wedge's CBL is a great league and is now in its 13th season...

My EBL is in its 10th season...

GMC was a great league but is in hiatus at the start of its 14th season....

NABL is in its 19th season.... but it is a fast-paced league...

in the end, there would be 100's of nominations and there is no one panel of people qualified to pick and choose which ones are the best, it's all opinion. There are still an abundance of great leagues that don't even advertise, because they don't need to, that's why they are great. The very idea of picking the best leagues is unachievable.

The best league is the one that fits best your interests, regardless of the quality of the web site, the deepness of the rules or if the members are original owners. The one that would be a huge disappointment if it folded. Plenty of leagues like that, I'm sure.

Perhaps a list of leagues that have survived for an extended period of time should be compiled.

That way, people who don't want to waste their time in upstart leagues that may or may not crash and burn within 3 months can get on a bunch of wait lists.

I know many of the better leagues (the NPBL, for example ) prefer word of mouth referrals when seeking new owners, but I'm sure some of the more stable leagues wouoldn't mind having more applicants to chose from when they do need a new owner.

I agree with the previous sentiment; the best league is the one that best fits what you are looking for. Most of these 'Best League' threads devolve into a popularity contest for leagues that have the most regular posters to this site. There are so many different types of leagues with so many different variations of each type that it would be pointless.... Even longevity isn't a really good barometer, 16 team leagues are easier to maintain than 30 team leagues, oldtimer leagues tend to draw older more patient/mature owners that tend to stick around longer etc...

There are a ton of great looking leagues nowadays. IMO it was much easier in the "old" days (2000) judging leagues since there were only a couple of good looking leagues and the XBL beat the pants off the competition*. Since that time the bar gets raised higher all the time, and site add ons like CommishJoe's BOSI and Jeff Cato's OOTP History make it possible for any league site to look pretty elite. These are the salad days of online league play.

* - Nope I was not in this league.

Yes, the XBL was the Babe Ruth of online leagues. It set the standard for what an online league should be and probably did more to influence how leagues are run today than any other.

I agree voting who is best is a hard task and what I like in leagues you might not. One thing I like to do before judging any league is I find the commish or other league Exect. online and try to chat them up...judge for yourself how they are face to face . If you find them frendly and gives you time to chat with them is a very god sign as well....a guy that blows you off over and over is probibly not worth your time.

Ask him what he finds fun in HIS league, give him some of your back ground, tell him what you like and disliked in other leagues you have been in....I find if he is willing to take time to talk about these things with you and you submit a request to join his league you find yourself a lot of times on the top of his waiting list. Guys that join a waiting list and disapear tend to not get far...stay in touch with the commish and chat with him is a great way to show your willingness to partisapate.

The Best league is the one YOU have the most fun in.
