Foreign Players- What would you do?

The discussion regarding foreign players has opened up recently in the S3BL. When the talk of Kaz Matsui coming to the MLB started up, I purposed to the league commissioner that we create him and enter him into the 2003 Draft/2003 Free Agent Pool. After purposing the idea to the league, most everyone was against it. They felt that we should keep the game OOTP Generated, and just let the game make the rookies.

How do you feel? With more and more foreign players entering baseball everyday, I say why not create them in your online league? Place them in the free agent pool, or the draft, I don't see how doing this wouldn't be good for the league. It keeps your league more realistic as well as lets you play with the same players you see and know. If you wanted to let the game generate the rookies, your league would become more and more fictional each year. With creating these foreign players, you can keep the realism that you had when you first started.

Opinions..

IMO, if you decide to create the in-coming players, they should be in thw free agency. You might also want to consider a suppelmental (If that is how you spell it) draft that has players from the foreign countries.

TLB started with Hideki Matsui and Jay Powell being offered up the same way Ichiro was. First, there was a closed bid to be able to offer the player a contract. This was taken out of the team's cash IF the player signed with that team. If he didn't, the player would have gone into the FA pool.

We didn't like it because it favored those teams with cash to burn. I was one, and bid $35m to just talk with Matsui. Good thing too because 2nd highest turned out to be $30m BTW -- This also requires the person accepting the bids be exempt from trying to sign the players since they have knowledge of all the bids.

So, the next round (Kaz Matsui and Jose Contreras) were introduced into the league as FAs. That worked MUCH better.

CommishJoe- So thus far it has worked good for your league? Would you recommend to other leagues to go out and use foreign players?
