Help ? How to make the smallest league file for d/l in online leagues ?
In year two of our online league, the zip file (league file) that is made available for d/l to all owners is approximately 4.5M's (reduced from approximately 12 Meg after I delete certain files from the zip file).
After every sim, I create a zip file from the league folder, then delete all box#.html's, all log#.html's and all p###.txt and p###.html. I've heard league files can be smaller... I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to minimize this file for my owners, and / or any tips for making it easier to go through than my manual deletions of box, log and player files. Thanks in advance.. |

dont include any of the subfolders in the zip file ie. photos, logos, almanac, news, messages. You might need to include the news and messages folder tho depending on your preference.

In the AFBL, the first file of the season is pretty large (5-6MB). After every other sim, I zip the league, open the zip, sort by date, and then delete any file older than the day of the current sim from the zip. This brings the league file down under 1 MB. It works pretty well for us.

We sim everyday in the ABL. What I do is make two files...one for the core files (.dats), and another for the news and boxscores. I call the core files ABL1.zip and the other BOX.zip. This way, the owners have the option of downloading just the core files, or downloading both. The website gets updated everyday, so if they're on the go, they can just get the small one.
The ABL1.zip starts out around 750K at the season's opening. Right now (into mid-June 2005), it's just over 1MB. The BOX.zip is almost 6MB right now (should get refreshed a bit once I delete the old emails). I don't know if this is of any note, but I have the largest league file out there, due to the long history of the league (over 100 years played). So, anyone else's file will be smaller by comparison. I hope that helps. -John |

I use Winzip, sort by date, and delete all files that are older than the current date, including all of the team export files. I then post that as an update file for people that don't want the full file. The update file starts around 1.1 MB during the beginning of the season and grows from there.
