Updating reinstalls the game files, including the ballpark files where the cameras are stored. When I was using custom cameras, I had a copy of the relevant ballpark files so I could overwrite the newly installed files, and then Copy Cameras to all parks. Not a convenient or elegant solution though. Could be an issue if that particular park ever had it's files actually changed in an update, so I was careful to check patch notes and compare file sizes/dates before overwriting.

FWIW Steam versions don't do this. They use a proper patch that only updates files that change. Another reason I like to buy from Steam. The only way cameras get overwritten with Steam is if OOTP Dev. made a change to the ootp.3d file for a park or all parks. That is where the cameras reside along with some (all?) park measurements like wall heights etc. Even though Steam does this it is still good practice to make one time backups of folders that have mod files in them when first installed. Backup even if you "know" you will never need it, isn't a bad idea.

Before I bought from Steam I had to make a copy of my ballpark folder unless I wanted to have to redo everything. I'd also do this for any OOTP folder I had placed in mods. Most times one can simply place the backup folder into the new OOTP install and go on. But to be safe don't overwrite the new folders, instead rename then something like "ballpark-original".
