High Socks

It is great that this has been added to in-game graphics but wondering if it would be possible to add a random high socks option (similar to bat color and shoe color) for all players. It would be tedious to manually select this for each player if you wanted it. And you can only currently select everyone on the team to either wear high socks or not on the uniform settings page. Being able to make this random would especially be great for my long time fictional league. Thanks for looking into this if it is possible.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, it's possible to assign high socks to individual players:

I agree that a "random" option would be nice though, even if it was just a one-time league-wide randomizer.

My interpretation is that they would like an option where with one click some players wear high socks and some do not.

Yes, that is what I meant. I am aware that you can either individually select high socks in each player's editor screen or you can select a whole team to wear high socks in the uniform editor screen. Either a one time option to randomly select high or normal socks for all players or randomizes game to game would be great. This would be similar to when the game assigned random arm slot levels for pitchers when that option became available.

I love Dodgerball's idea too. That for newly-created players, a certain percentage of the time that box would be checked "yes" by default would mean that we don't even need a new menu.

Tedious or not to assign individual pants/stockings style to the current modern players I do prefer the current situation of the team settings checkbox for long pants or short pants. This way I can simply check short pants for many historical years without having to fiddle with the individual players.

Actually I would like another team checkbox to assign shoe color to the whole team while keeping the option to manually edit shoe color to individual players. I wish I could assign black shoes to all my 1959 teams but I have to go to each individual player and assign black shoes or else they appear in random colors.

Random for socks, like shoes, would be nice, but would also need a setting for how many players would get them, I think. Some would say 50% is too many, others too few. Perhaps a percentage menu to select from?

I'm in ST and have given them to a few of my players and it does add a bit of immersion and atmosphere to playing out a game. Unless or until there is a random selection option my workaround is going to be to assign socks to a few players on each team as they come up on my schedule. It's certainly not ideal but it will take advantage of socks for all teams. If you want a lot of players having socks you can reverse the procedure, IE put socks on everyone and take them off a few players.

Another way is to randomly select players in the draft pool. Open the top player's card, go to the edit tab. From here you can use the down arrow on your keyboard to scroll through the players and always be on the edit page. I've just done this and went through a 670 player draft pool assigning socks randomly and it took less than 5 minutes.

1. sort pool to pitchers or batters (reverse the selection for a second pass or
do them all at once, doesn't really matter)

2. sort by name (This way you know approx. how far down the list you are)

3. open first player and hover the mouse on the socks selection box
(it will stay there as you scroll through the list)

4. hold the down arrow and randomly let up and give that player socks (how
long to hold is up to you.)

You can also use this scroll method for each team as they come up in your schedule. If you want to do the minor leagues too? When you do a MLB team just bring up "all players in the organization" on the roster tab and you'll be doing your league "top to bottom" one team at a time. If you're using the 2023 schedule you already play everyone, so no teams left out. If you're using any other schedule you'll have to sort that out.

Not ideal, but not a huge time sink either.

Interestingly, in my fictional league today, I found a player on an opposing team wearing high socks in a game that I didn't think I had manually edited, though it's possible I did when I was playing around on release day with the program. Went into edit and indeed the checkbox was already on. Could have been me in my old age clicking around and forgetting I did but I wonder if anyone could tell us authoritatively, either way, if this is something that only happens if you manually force it.

Players with pants crumpled up around their shoes are tacky.

I did what Sweed did. Just went into editor and randomly picked about 20% of the players to have high socks. Did this for the whole player data base minus free agents and draft pool. Can add those players when they get selected to an organization later on. This is a bit of a pain and not really a critical issue but it is a nice immersion factor for those that play out all of their games like I do. If the developers could leave on the option to select high or low socks for the entire team on the uniform editor page but also add on another option to be able to randomize socks for individual players and choose percentage of high socks, that would be ideal. Kinda of like for facial hair/beards. Not sure how difficult it is to program that.
