Current year or previous year?

When do current year stats become previous year stats with regard to AI player evaluation?

After the World Series? On January 1st?

In regards to contracts, the new league year begins on the day of free agency. So I'm assuming then.

From the lack of responses, I take it nobody knows the answer to this question.

Can one of the developers shed light on this please?

You got a response. No one has said that answer is wrong. Looks like silence is consent.

I'm not prepared to say its wrong. However I believe it's possible the ratings basis changes on the first day of the off season. However the ratings change all through the off season which casts some doubt there. An observed change may not be enough to state the cause. Scouting accuracy and talent change randomness is also present.

Many questions will not be answered by the devs on the principle of maintaining some fog of war which many players want. This might be one of them.

I don't mean the weighting of the player ratings, which can change during the offseason. I was referring to the player's current or previous season stats.

A hypothetical example: Offseason just started. Jack Long, my 36-year-old 1B had a great year in 2022, hitting .315 with 35 HRs. He now has one more year left on his contract at 15 million. I'm goint into rebuild mode and want to trade Jack for prospects while his value is relatively high. I'm using AI evaluation settings of 50-30-15-5.

Let's set aside Jack's ratings and focus only on his 2022 season stats.

When I shop Jack during the offseason, for how long (if at all) will the 30% "current year stats weight" apply to his great 2022 season?

Interesting two of us misunderstood your question.

Anyway, now that I am belatedly on board, like many things with OOTP I don't know anywhere this is explained. Taking the words at face value it would seem current season doesn't start until opening day, especially since we have specific terms Spring Training and Pre Season.

OTOH I'm convinced the change in ratings occurs much earlier than opening day, such as on free agency filing day or the first day of the off season as posted previously. And its possible that for consistency or convenience the changes occur on the same day.

Unfortunately I'm convinced the manual, incomplete as it is, is the only real documentation for the game.* So if there's an answer posted by someone in the know, its going to rely on someone's memory.

*I've posted this thought several times and have never been challenged on it.

You could test this. I assume you're only a few days into off season. Change the percentages and see if the offers are different before and after the change.

It would be better if you had a save or backup late in the season you could do this with too.

Experiment with different dates for example, after free agent filing, after spring training starts, and after the new season starts. Much of the details of this game have been discovered through testing.

If what was discovered from testing and posted to the boards was included in the manual it would be 3 times as big.

I uninstalled the game this morning after I posted the question. The next several months will be extremely busy for me both personally and professionally. I should have more time again come spring. Once OOTP 24 is out, I will take a look at this issue again and do as you suggested re testing - and then I will post my findings.

Would it make sense to have a dedicated subforum specifically for this kind of testing? I've noticed that discussions sometimes go off the rails here in the general forum, whether or not an underlying complaint with the game is valid or not. Maybe it would help if we have a subform exclusively for presenting your test results. A place where those with complaints go to submit their "evidence" in detail. We would need to see screenshots and know what relevant game settings were being used. The only discussions there would be comments relevant to the respective tests. The developers could then ocassionally drop in on the testing subforum and quickly review the validity of the issues under complaint.

I like OOTP in the winter when I can imagine the crack of the bat.. In March I go to spring training games and in the summer I got to the beach. Anyway, hope you get back to the game soon.
