More/Less Pitching & More/Less Offense
Does anyone know exactly how these two dynamic functions of league evolution work? I only ask because they APPEAR they could be contradictory if you enable both.
If you have less offense on one hand, and more pitching on the other, what does that do? Similarly you could potentially have less pitching while having more offense. And then of course you could also wind up somewhere in the middle with more pitching and more offense. I am just wondering if it is necessary to enable both if you want some variation, or if enabling both just makes the variation much more pronounced? Could it potentially be like going from a deadfall era (more pitching & less offense) to a steroid era? (more offense & less pitching) Last edited by PSUColonel; 12-13-2022 at 08:28 PM. |

I just assumed it means you can occasionally get higher/lower-than-expected league averages in pitching or offense. Kind of like how HRs across the league had unexpectedly skyrocketed over the last few years.
How the engine goes about making this happen, though, is beyond me. Maybe this acts as a 3rd step after calculating LTMs, but I'm only guessing. I'm interested in finding this out myself. |

From what I have seen, it will happen randomly. Usually there will be a news article stating something like "League lowers mound, more offense expected" or something like that. It comes with all the end of year messages you get. You have to know your league totals before and after to see what the difference actually is...I assume.

At the very least, they could give some detail about any new settings they introduce like this, especially when the grounds are this ambiguous.

This has been part of league evolution for a long time (I started properly playing with OOTP 14 and it was around then). The effect is typically immediately noticeable after a season, the league average either jumping or dropping at least 10 points, ERA likewise

League evolution settings have been around for awhile, but like I said, it doesn't appear to be an over time increase or decrease in offense. There is a trigger and news story that goes with it. Some goes for the other league evolution settings. If you enable all of them, the league will randomly expand, teams will relocate, DH rule with change, etc, etc. Over the years that this setting has been available I've always received a trigger news story. However, the offense increase/decrease seems to take a year before you notice. For example, you get the "more offense" notification when the season ends. You probably won't notice more offense in the next season, but the one after that you will see a bump. I actually just had one and went from 2 40hr guys in the league to 4 50hr guys.

So it's pretty immediate...yeah, I d be interested in something more subtle and happening over time. These options are the only league evolution settings I am at all interested in, but if it's automatic the way you guys say it is, I am not so sure. Hmmm.

I know league evolution settings have been there for a while. Just didn't remember seeing the "More/Less" options there until now, so I thought they were newish. |
