Trading!

With all that has happened with v23 so far, I would think there will come a moment in time where the OOTP Team has to come up with something BIG to give the game a "booster shot".

How cool would it be if you could also trade in PT? With the hundreds of reserve and inactive cards everyone hords for collections and tournaments, think how neat it would be to submit a proposal of a card trade to another PT player.

You could find that player you need to finish a mission, improve your tournament team, or possibly even add to your active roster.

I also realize this option could be a programing nightmare - and it's very likely the idea has come up already internally, but what do you folks think?

Spare me the agony please. It's far easier to just buy what you want in the Card Shop. Trading only makes sense in online leagues where each "card" is unique.

There's also the cheating issue, with Team A trading Koufax to Team B for Throneberry, only to find out eventually that the same person owns both teams (or that two players are in cahoots and have a tit for tat arrangement).

Policing this would be difficult if not impossible. Even instituting a rule that restricts trades to identically-rated cards would not solve the problem, since there are plenty of overrated and underrated cards.

Exactly! This would make the cheating worse than what it currently is.

yeah, the auction manipulation has historically been terrible and obvious. adding this element wouldn't help.

i know this is an unpopular sentiment around here, but being able to have multiple PT teams per account is something i've always loathed - it drives almost all of the auction/market manipulation.

This is factually untrue. You can have 3 teams per license. The game will not let you list a card with Team A, then buy it with Team B or Team C. You can go ahead and try it. The game blocks you by generating an error message on the transaction. It would be nice if it actually said "You can't buy your own cards", or something to that effect.

If you shell out the $$ for a second license, then it gets out into the realm of cheating being possible. But the team, I assume, still monitors for this like they did in PT22.

ah yeah, sorry, i wasn't terrible descriptive about what i meant there. i mean coordinated multi-account swapping ACROSS licenses. aka, you've got 3 teams, i've got 3 teams, and we bolster one of the teams on each of our accounts by swapping players to those accounts from one another's "secondary" teams.

Ok. Your comments have kinda convinced me trading could be a nightmare to control. It seemed like a fun option if we didn’t have to worry about those that would try to take advantage…

It's always the 5% in life who screw things up for the 95% that are basically decent people.

I think it is more like 10%.

This will only be true until OOTP GO migrates to 23. There's a license of sorts in GO, but it isn't nearly as restrictive as the PC version.
