Draft bonus settings

Has anybody fiddled with the default setting that you have to negotiate deals with players in the first five rounds? Is it realistic? Do players drafted from the sixth round on typically just show up, as guys who are demanding "slot" do in OOTP? Would it screw up the financials if I changed it?

I'm about to start a new save and I do fiddle with settings. But I've learned the hard way that in OOTP, as in real life, you shouldn't punch a button without being certain of what it will do.

I have mine set to negotiate all rounds and it does not throw off your financials as far as I can tell. When you're drafting all rounds, you're still paying the player's bonuses at the slot value, I believe, even if you don't have to negotiate with them.

To answer your main question, though, it just depends on the player's demands. If you're drafting a guy demanding $2M at a slot value of $100k, it won't show up as him suddenly wanting $100k after being drafted. You'll still be expected to pay close to his demand, and I believe you still have to negotiate with this player ever if you're doing just 5 rounds. There are slot values with each pick beyond round 5, and you can go over/under slot accordingly with player demands and negotiation. Sometimes the player wants full slot (it won't simply say slot, it'll show you the bonus demand vs. slot value), but other times you can get them lower or their demand will be lower. Much of that is based on how easy/hard their negotiation level is.

I try to hard-cap my drafts at $12-13M and then draft with that in mind. I much prefer negotiating every round because there's way more strategy involved.

It's definitely worth trying.

Thanks, koolkerns. All of that makes sense.
