Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!

Let’s hope he spends his $1,193,248.20 wisely.

One of the few days that makes me happy to be a Mariners fan!

Reminder: In 2 years Bruce Sutter will be paid $9 million by the Braves as the final payment in his 36 year $44 million deal.

Another reminder, the Bobby Bonilla deal was a good one for both the Mets and Bonilla.

Another reminder, people making fun of this deal probably wouldn't pass an ECON 101 exam

Another reminder: It’s still funny.

It’s just cool that the guy gets $1.19M dollars every year, makes me laugh in appreciation for a deal well made.

I do agree that it has worked out quite well for the Mets, though.

Awesome for you!

We need more people who can find the joy in the small things in life. I assume you're equally giddy when you get your credit card bills and bank statements showing the interest you've earned. Or when you make your mortgage or car payments.

I tend to think credit and interest are rather mundane, wish I shared your zeal for them

I'm trying.

What's your secret to being giddy over a loan with an 8% interest rate? How can I capture that to make myself happy to be a fan of the Mariners?

Cause I don't get it.

Yeah, agree the Mariners statement was off. Are you a fan of the Mariners, because if true, in spite of this tit for tat, that makes us friends. But, it makes me laugh and it doesn’t have to make you laugh. You don’t need to get it. That’s not a requirement of my merriment. I’m not an economist - but I do think it’s funny that Bobby Bonilla has this windfall every year - I like to imagine that he will be buying a fleet of jet skis with gold plated handle bars for cruising down the Hudson with his pals.

I’ve touched a nerve. Thought I was being funny... was clearly wrong.

My fault. Note to self: never clown the Mets.

Man, had the M’s been on this list the joke would’ve really been on me! Yikes.

Personally, just saying the name Bobby Bonilla makes me happy. Not sure why. Just one of those names that has a pleasing sound to it that brings a smile to my face.

(Some others: Minnie Minoso, Pee Wee Reese- okay, those two are kind of cheating since they include nicknames, Bombo Rivera- also a nickname it turns out- man I'm not good at this at all, John Wockenfuss, Jim Walewander- pretty sure no nicknames there.)

You have evidenced in other threads on the forum that you have a quirky and irreverent sense of humor, pauwoo. Quirky and irreverent work for me.

I only listed guys currently being paid. They paid Ichiro to play for other teams from 2012-2017. And my list is well short of being complete. I wouldn't be surprised if they are paying someone who is retired.

Well that explains why the Tacoma Rainiers are the best club in the PNW, or maybe not.. at this point I’m questioning all I hold dear.

Only if you are old enough to know that "Bonilla" does not rhyme with "vanilla."
