Tyler O'Neill Speed Stat?
Curious as to how the speed stat is calculated. Tyler O'Neill is listed as #10 in Statcast speed ratings but in the game he has a 40 speed rating, which is the same speed that Molina (who is ranked at #566) has.
In other news, I might have to fire Mike Shildt as his aggressive base running strategies ran us into 3 outs in our opening game. |

It's more of a functional speed rating, not a pure measure of how fast a player runs. How fast do they play on the baseball field. O'Neill may be fast in a straight line according to statscast, but he doesn't use that speed in games. He never really steals bases, doesn't really hit a lot of doubles or triples and seems to have mediocre at best range defensively. So his speed in-game is nothing to write home about.

Then I really need to fire Shildt for trying to steal with O'Neill and Carpenter.
