Application Error

OOTP5 keeps crashing on me. Its happened twice in the last day. Im simming out multiple seasons (Gforce latests), and randomly the game just crashes. I dont have a way too tell when, since the game is minimized.

this is what im getting in the application log...

Faulting application ootp5.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ootp5.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00087eb5.

It doesnt happen at any one point, when i crash, i just open the game back up and start simming again where it crashed. So far its bombed in 2007 and 2010.

Is there a degub log anywhere? Any dev switches to enable debug?

I wonder if updating Direct X to v9 would help?

Too many other games dont jive with DX9. This problem just came up, out of the blue, i cant see why a DX update would help.

It seems like it would have to be league file related.

I simmed to end of season, and after a couple days, it crashed again. This time i left OOTP in the foreground, so i took a snap shot. Notice that a few of the stats werent updating. This has got to be the reason for the crash.

What mode are you playing? Manager mode? I'm trying to gather some similar details between some of these unexplained crashes.

Ok, heres what i exactly have going on...

No Manager Mode.
GForces Latest roster set.
All teams set to computer run.
Team cash max at 20,000,000.
Amateur draft 7 rounds.
Computer trades <b>disabled</b>.
Coaching/Scouts System <b>disabled</b>.
All other options at default.

Before i slept last night, i set it to sim 10 seasons. When i got this morning, i saw it had crashed. I loaded up the league, and it had left off in season 5. I set it to sim 4 more seasons, it then crashed in season 7. Set it to sim 3 years, crashed in season 11. Set it to sim 2 seasons and it crashed half way thru season 12... which is the screen shot above.

This was the first time i noticed the league stats like they are on the standings screen. *shrug* might have been like that this whole time, but im not sure.

I just checked out the League Leaders, and its blanks. no season stats are there for any players. But it does show stats when you look at players on the team roster screen.

Ok, i just looked further, and it appears it quit keeping track of stats on 7/13/2012. In actuality were in 9/26/2012.

its all buggered up!

btw, the game is on the scsi <b>I:</b> drive, listed on my comp diag above. These drives are defragmented regularly.

Im still having the exact same problem as above.

Im using Dodgers roster pack that he posted in the ootp5 general forum, i make it to 2007 and it crashes.

Same scenario as the screenshot above, its not keeping track of those stats.

Heres how the league file is setup...

No Manager Mode.

This is getting a bit worrysome. id like to think im up to date on everything driver/api related, im a programmer myself and use the same programming languages as Arlie and Markus, among others.

Im in high doubt that this is a system issue, but i will update to DX9, and attempt to run 10 seasons and see what happens.

Has there been any progress on this situation? I am sorta under the impression this bug has been seen before, am i off base?

Thanks Steve. I updated DX8 to DX9a, and simmed 4 seasons straight without a crash.

But i also left all my league settings at default, instead of what i have in the 2 examples above.

It was probably the DX, but ill set new leagues up with those settings above and test again to see.

Ok, using the same league i mention above, i continued to sim half way thru 2008. stopped, looked things over and all was still ok. I decided to change from the default league setting to...

80,000,000 salary cap
12,000,000 max cash
10 round amatuer draft

Then, i continued to sim on thru the 2008 season, offseason came, the comp ran thru all the off season chores, and then i get a few weeks into 2009, and it crashes. same problem as above. Its 5.27.09 and no players have any stats for the season.

Im narrowing it down to the salary cap (maybe?) ill do some more tests when i get home tonight form the Mariners game.

Nope still crashing, every which way. garg. ran a sim from 2003, it crashed in 2012, with all the stats missing again.

Im hesistant now to play the game at all.

Could it be an isolated problem with using the Schedule->Simulate->Simulate X Years ?

Im afraid if i continue running my main league one day at a time, this bug is eventually gonna come up.

Ill try and run a 10 year sim with the base league, fictional players, league default settings. maybe its something to do with using the custom roster sets?

Not sure, I have not tried the above set yet. I have simmed many years into the future using a fictional/custom league w/o issue. Markus does have the details of this thread FYI.

Just tried to sim out 20 seasons, with the base fictional league, all settings default. It crashed in year 2010. Same as above, no stats being recorded, game craps out.

its frequently defragged, has plenty of room. I moved it off of my c:\ drive due to the large number of files in my .400 directory.

I could move it back, but id hate to have ootp on my main drive.

Im all up to date in every possible way. mdac, directx 9a, all my drivers (mobo/chipset/graphic/scsi/everythingelseyoucanthinkof). There isnt a single other game i play that crashes (c&c generals, TDCB, High Heat 2004, NBA Live 2003, CM4, Age of Empires, oh so many more)..

I usually can go 7 seasons before the stats start disappearing, then the game crashes and the league file is ruined.
