Looking Ahead

So, OOTP20 will probably be released in less than three months. We know the PT servers will stay up for at least another year after this, but how much will everyone still pay attention to the current iteration when the new version drops? I'd like to think I'd still pay near as much attention to this version as next, but if there's a mass migration to the new game, I don't know how discouraging that might be.

Well, given how much dang money I sunk into this I suppose I'll pay real close attention. That said, I do plan to buy 20 and play so it would be a bit odd checking both all the time but it would at least be something fun to do I suppose.

Eventually my teams will reach a point where there isn't much left to do to build and improve the team. As I approach this threshold, I fully expect to spend less and less time in game, even if I don't have other newer Perfect Teams to check on.

[Super Late Edit: I would still expect to check in on my team, similar to what Orcin says below. I can't imagine completely abandoning it]

I would guess it probably wouldn't be much fun. After a mass migration, the AH will probably collapse and the ability to obtain new cards will be difficult.

I will probably just set my team up to run on auto-pilot and check in weekly to see how it is doing.

As long as my team still has my name on it I will be playing it as hard as I can for as long as it last. I am not sure I could give my all to both so I will probably just ride this one out until it dies.

As soon as 20 is released, the leagues in 19 will become ghost towns and the AH will collapse. Winning titles will mean nothing because you’ll be beating ghost teams.

It will mean something to me. By that time there will be many great teams in the league. Super teams. Starting the 2020 new game will be back to lousy rookie teams until they are built back up . So actually the competition of the 2019 will be much harder with much better teams. It took us seasons to get some great teams here and that is when it gets fun. In the next 2 months they will only get better. So in reality winning anything in the 2020 for the first 10 seasons or so will mean nothing as players try and get good teams working.

I think this is right. 20 will have tournaments, new cards, live card progression, and lots of other goodies. Plus, by then everyone's 19 team will be set and there won't be much left to do.

Nothing left but trying to beat the best teams already assembled. That to me is when it gets fun. But that is what is good about this game. Something for everyone. I love that. That is why Markus deserves everything he can get out of this game and should be supported as such. He has actually made a game that not only Everyone can play but can also enjoy their way. Cheers to that. It is a win win for everyone.....

Also I should add that I watch all my games. I am retired so I have the time. It has been a real pleasure seeing all the great players like Ruth and Cobb and Mays ete throughout the Perfect league. Every team has their own idea of a team and it has been so much fun watching the greats play. In the perfect league it is not all Trout and Betts, Sure they are here but are surrounded by alltime greats like Ruth and Gehrig. So for me this is half the fun. Watching these great players perform. That is what I mean about this game has something for everyone. Some sim and look, Some sim and check the team after work and some watch their team perform. This is one wonderful game for all.

I think the good part about PT is that the time commitment can be minimal. Once teams are set-up they run, so it's not like playing against ghost teams means the teams will fall apart.

At a minimum I'll check-in weekly like Orcin, but could see checking more frequently to see how things are going.

Not sure it'll be a complete ghost town, but I guess we'll see. There are plenty of people that don't upgrade every year, or maybe just enjoy taking their time and building a team. I'm sure there will be less activity on the AH, but you can still open packs.

Also I think the best teams have to much involved to just walk away and not even bother to set their team. They did a hell of a lot of work making these team great so I am sure the perfect league will continue to thrive. And with the randomness of the way the players perform from season to season that will guarantee that it will never get dull.... When you finally build a good team all you need to do is to adjust it for that season and for some players slumps. It is very much fun competing against some of these giants and trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t on any given season. This truly is a great game and mode.

You won't be able to win at every level even if everyone stops playing. There won't be any upgrades on the AH more than likely so you'll have to get lucky with packs and then eventually get to leagues that have all historical perfects and then good luck.

It doesn't take any active management to win with most of those teams.

The only thing that will collapse in 19 when 20 comes out is the influx of real money. That should usher in a "golden age" for the F2P players, who will have each other and the abandoned great teams already assembled to compete against.

I think it will be quite fun and a huge challenge. I feel only the best will stay, The ones who invested in a GREAT team and the competition should be quite stiff. I feel the bad teams will stay down in the lower level as their owners quit to go try the 2020 edition. I could be wrong but I feel the great players will stay because of the wonderful teams they have built and will want to compete with the best because all the teams in the Perfect will be very good teams. I guess time will tell because March or April is right around the corner....

I'll probably completely ignore my team, unless there are some big issues with perfect team in 20 at the beginning.

My guess is that I will just check in every couple weeks and rip a bunch of packs with any PP I have racked up. I would expect the AH to almost completely collapse after 20 comes out.

Competition will drop a bit if teams are abandoned. Even "super teams" need to set a playoff rotation, etc..

PT in OOTP 19 will remain quite busy. Looking at our stats, we still have about 1000 active OOTP 18 users playing that version, and with PT I expect the OOTP 19 numbers at the same time next year to be a lot higher. I think there will be many who will manage their PT teams in both 19 and 20!
