Buying Points

In theory, this is a good idea, but it will totally eliminate any semblance of balance in ANY league. If this is a constant, then those who want to purchase points with REAL money should be placed in leagues with others who purchase points, and those who just want to take the chance and run the gambit of using their perfect points should be placed in leagues of like users. Just my thoughts.

The promotion/relegation system will tend to automatically take care of this.

Discussed at length here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=294293

Summary: It's not going to happen.

Plenty of detailed arguments given in that thread, but the gist of my personal stance is: Teams will be promoted/relegated every season based on their standings. This is going to create an environment where (for the most part) the top teams play the other top teams, and the bottom teams play the other bottom teams. This is far, far more fair than splitting teams up based on how they came across their success - I'd rather be in a league with a bunch of players who spent money and have teams about as talented as mine, than be stuck in a league with a bunch of players who've never spent a dime but pulled a Perfect card from a pack, sold it, and are living like kings.

More importantly:

Quote:
And - I cannot possibly stress this enough - that kind of separation will without fail lead to less money being put into PT from the casual players. I'm the kind of person who isn't going to spend a ton of money, but every now and then, maybe I'll feel like throwing $5 their way to have some fun opening a few packs. If that were to instantly put me into a league alongside players spending hundreds of dollars, my $5 are staying in my pocket. That entire structure makes absolutely zero sense, from a marketing or competitive standpoint.

I find the mass of people that come out to bitch about PP for hard coin mildly amusing. Let me break this kindly to you all: some fart with too much money on his hands will NOT be the reason you're not winning the top league. Can you all be any more ridiculous? There are already several thousand teams in play already and it's probably going to become a lot more still. It's not like you are the next Alex Cora! (chuckles)

The "whales" are also not going to take anything away from you collecting and acquiring cards at your own pace. Let him empty his wallet for a bunch of immaterial bling if he so chooses! But if you are in fact greedy and envious, why don't you just admit it?

Also let me break some news to you - in-app transactions won about 15 years ago. It's just over. Accept it or confine yourself to the singleplayer experience. Alternatively be glad that there are idiots that are going to be spending thousands of dollars on the mode, because this means you can play it for free.

I think it is funny to hear people complain about problems they don't have yet. As my mother said, "Don't borrow trouble."

OK.

I keep seeing this pop up.

I see a [potentially] all-satisfying way to set this [mostly] to rest.

Make a F2P-only server using old tech some time in the early 2020's.

Launch a new server using OOTP 19 tech once OOTP 22 or 26 launches, there are tons of servers running, and you've made enough money off PT that running one more server won't cost too much as far as fan service goes. Charge $25 to buy into this flat, truly competitive environment to help cover server costs as well.

Most serious PT players will maintain a modern team and a F2P team, not choose between the two. Gives dedicated players more to do, gives casual players more options to choose from.

If that's in the works, there can't be as much complaint about it not being extant at the very outset of the mode in 19, and such an mode is obviously desired by a significant enough portion of the fanbase that you could monetize it well in the future without jeopardizing anything in the then-current mode. It'll break the 'one-universe' of the old game, but at that point who cares? The most current game (several most current games) will be one-universe still, until it (potentially) becomes their turn to be F2P.

Just a thought...

I honestly must have missed this lost pertaining to promotion and relegation.
