Almanac question
How many of you use the almanac feature? If you use it what settings do you like? Finally, don't you find a lot of the things in the almanac in the team history page? Just trying to decide if it's really necessary to generate an almanac every season to experience the entire history of your game.

Don't use it, primarily for the reasons you don't. Maybe we'll both learn something new.

I only save boxes/logs, then zip them up after the almanacs are generated. That way they don't take up too much disk space.

I've really only used it for tracking player development when trying to analyze different parts of the game. Seems most of the things except for player ratings can be exported whenever you want. Player ratings are always changing so those snapshots can be captured at a moment in time.

I treat it like the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis from Evil Dead. Plus it can slow down sims speeds if you have lots of leagues. Unless its in my head

Thanks for this thread. I have a big league approaching 100 years old. Generating the Almanac is an all-night process and I never look at them. Finally woke up and turned it off.

I've been using the almanac because it saves all your game logs and box scores for each season. I'm doing a historical replay from 1871 onwards, and I actually post all the html files to a website to supplement the thread/blog entries that I do.
That said, it does not work perfectly online out of the box. There is some heavy duty html code editing that needs to be done to get everything to work well. So...that's what I use the almanac for. I create one at the end of each year so that anyone who wants to look at the individual game logs and box scores for any year can do so. |

My giant universe takes hours to make one too, but once it's done I copy it out of the save file onto my hard drive, so that it reduces the overall size of ths file and eases backups, because I don't save box score/logs etc for most leagues from year to year. As noted though it's a bit of work to use as some of the links end up broken.

Just won the World Series after trying forever with the same franchise. I almanac'ed the hell out of that season. I want every box score, everything preserved. Ha! But generally I think the history contained within the game is more than enough.
