Purge Files
Is there anyway to purge files? If so is it even necessary?

Yes, there is a "Purge deleted records from database" feature under Database Tools in Game Settings, Database. Read about it here.
Now, I almost feel guilty telling you this because this is something that you do not do unless there is a need to, in my opinion. I would say that it is inherently risky and if you are not having problems, I would leave your league alone. At the very least, back up your league before doing anything like this. EDIT: Looking closely at that online manual page, I get the impression that the Purge Tool is supposed to be for online league commissioners. See what you think; you may also want to search the OOTPB forums for this topic. EDIT 2: It also looks like this tool is for cleaning up deletions, maybe as a by-product of running and maintaining an online league (I never have done so). I don't delete much, if at all, in my own leagues. Somehow, this tool does not look like it's for ordinary game players.

if you have a hall of fame - it'll change the players numbers. The pictures will remain but if you click on them, the link goes to a different player. Will do the same to any retired numbers.
it's something to keep in mind. Basically it deleted old players & ID's and somehow (black magic i think) reassigns them to others. As Deja Bru says - use it only if needed.
