Excel Usage

Does anyone know if there's a way to export data to excel (csv, txt, etc), beyond the massive data dumps? I'm looking for ways to manipulate the available data beyond the confines of OOTP, essentially creating my own "proprietary" stats, but the league data dump isn't particularly useful for this. Ideally, I'd be able to run a report or view sortable stats, and then just export to an excel compatible file (or even have some advanced type of analytical ability within OOTP). Is this possible in current versions, or should this be a feature request for future versions?

You can export the Rosters and change almost anything from Names, Uniforms, Vital Data, Handedness, Height, Weight, Contracts, Ratings, Pitches, Experience and Batter Expectations. If you want to change stats them just export the stats. Almost everything except the Twitter handle can be change.(PlayerID must stay the same). I spend more time in Excel than in the Game changing things. Markus is suppose to be looking at Exporting the Draft so we can change and create players right after the draft instead of waiting until after the season. Hope this Helps, let me know if you are looking for something else or have a problem.

You have a couple options, depending on what data you are looking to export.

The easiest but least flexible way is finding a report in-game, choosing "Write to Disk", which opens the report in a browser window as HTML. You can, I believe, copy/paste from the HTML into Excel and have your data there, unformatted.

What I've been doing is playing around with is using the data dumps to populate an out of game database (either Access or MySQL), run my own queries and stat calculations in the DB and export to Excel. This is by far the most flexible.

You can also write a Macro or VB script in Excel to pull from the data dumps.

It's very important to note that the data dumps don't contain any calculated stats except for WAR. You're on your own for the rest (or you can read the totally amateurish blog in my signature).

Finally, I will point you to this thread I started a while ago that shows some of the neat things that people here are doing with Excel: LINK

Check out this thread, you can create custom stats in Power BI http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=286156

database with queries and reports will be the cleanest and best looking for sure.

you can do the same with spreadsheets too.. you link to files, no copy/paste.. tehy form worksheets that you never use or look at.... but formulas referencing those cells can create all the stats you can design on an "Output" worksheet.

highlight an duse "fill" function... you never have to setup more than 1 line and fill down or right accross rows/columns respectively. after that each time you export form game, then load up excell/calc it was ask you to "update linked files", you click yes and it's all updated... including your "Output" section.

need a WiP page because you don't like long complicated formulas? np, make one.. same idea.. use links to cells from imported workseets, then link to "Output"

nothing professional here, no worries what it looks like under the covers. the output sheet is the only one you ever "Read" .. as long as you use formulas, it all updates immediately upon import of new data.

Ain't that the truth. I only played 318 hours on 18 this year but i swear 300 of it was setting up and editing stuff rather then playing.
