Game won't advance beyond certain date

So I had one save that I was doing and my laptop broke for a bit. Got it fixed and the game ran no problem. But the next season, the game would not advance beyond October 9th or so. I would get an "ootp18.exe has stopped working" every time I tried. So I figured the save was busted. Now my new save was running smoothly but for the third in-game season, it will not advance beyond October 9th without crashing. Everything else about the game and PC is normal. This is game-breaking.

Also I do now own a second laptop (an ASUS Notebook) but OOTP runs so agonizing slow on it compared to my Toshiba. Is there anyway to speed that up?

Reinstall didn't work. Save still won't advance without crashing.

Is the 9th or so an important date? Start of playoffs or something?

I am at a loss.
Do you have a backup?
Have you tried to copy and paste your .dat files into a new save and run that?

If you can fill out a support ticket and upload one of the league files (instructions in my sig), we can take a look and see what might be going on.

My new save is working OK. I actually think the problem was my playoff format. I had never used it before. 32 teams, 10 playoff teams with the #1 getting a BYE. I set a BYE vs BYE matchup in the opening round because I couldn't figure out how else to do it. I think that may have been the issue.
