2mistakes that i see thus far

mistake #1

not having screenshots and pre release news on the ootp site. I went to operation sport and it was a complete waste of time.

mistake #2

when all the hype is about promotion- relegation. markus will find out that the people who truly support this game are baseball fans not soccer fans. Spending 5 minutes on advancing soccer concepts and not concentrating on refining the baseball aspects will set the game back to some degree.

ootp 18 will be a great game but maybe not as great as it could be.

don't think for 2 seconds that there isn't someone ready to swoope in with a better game if ootp begins to falter

1 - Screenshots need MLB approval so, as I understand it, it's more trouble than it may be worth.

2 - The people who like this feature really like it. But I'm surprised it was added, tbh.

I somewhat agree with what you are saying except for the last line, that's NOT going to happen. We are lucky to have Markus and his team creating the best baseball simulation in the world and no one should take this for granted.

Still, a small alarm bell is going off over OOTPD not handling their own RTR and in general not doing a better job of marketing leading up to release.

Doesn't seem the same since Brad Cook departed. So, I think you raise a good point, Bru. I think one of the problems is timing. Since the biggest new features are not completed until a couple of weeks before release, there is no time to take screenshots and get MLB approval.

I would definitely agree with that statement. But yeah, a big reason is also the fact that the MLB needs to approve everything. In the past, pre-release info was never a problem.

But you know what makes up for lack of pre-release info and hype? A successful and impressive release period and overall game.

I've been buying ootp since version 6, and it seems like this is the first year where it's been this silent. Without the yearly countdown thread, you could come to this site and not even know a major release was basically hours away from happening. It's the first year where I've felt starved for information about the game. Without their being crosslinked from another site entirely, many on the board wouldn't even know the road to releases happened this year. There was no usual post from Markus with a full list of features, etc. At least the manual came out a couple days ago and answered many of my questions.

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, since the game is going to be a solid release like it is every year. I just hope that next year will see more promotion, more hype generation, and more information released. I come here wanting to be hyped, and wanting to drool over the new systems added, and changes that were made to older systems within the game. It's been a little saddening to come here every day and find basically nothing new to read or digest about the game.

I don't understand the complaints. Did you not find the RTR? What difference does it make, you click a link. Who cares who the "host" is?

And do you REALLY need external hype to be excited about a new release? Have you not already been sold on the game?

Use to play it until they started using animals as players. That was it for me.

I got an email the other day from OOTP and it had screenshots. The email was about the steam version (not getting steam version but have gotten it the past two years) and it had screenshots relating to different players and idk if everybody saw it, but i didn't post anything about it because i wasnt sure if i was allowed

Wait... they actually did that? Not just placeholder animal photos?

Sure i would like more info before a release but at the same time i know there is only so much info to give. There may be info for things that dont make it in the game or they may want to leave a surprise in the game.
It doesn't bother me as i would rather ootp spend as much time as needed on making the game.
We have a great website and community. We have almost 20 years of ootp releases. We know it usually comes out in spring. I'm not sure how much info is needed.

Pro/rel took a lot longer than 5 minutes to code, but that's not the point.

There's not much else for the dev team to add that wouldn't detract from the other parts of the game. Pro/rel was added both because of the few people who've been doing it manually and because it would allow more accurate international leagues.

I couldn't remember his name and had wondered what the heck happened. Thanks for the reminder. He sure did help encourage the presales and the core group of us happy and pumped up for each version

this is not small for me, it's really large. I love the feature list but the low-energy by the team and lack of marketing makes me wonder if they aren't quite as enthused as normal. they've done incredible work over the years but have a small team and if their energy starts flagging it could really harm the game. hope it's not so and there are plenty of reasons they haven't hyped it or done any marketing, but it is worrying

Re: promo/rel

I'd like to create an environ where a laundry list of cities and towns have a chance... I created league once based on the 80 largest US cities. Took some time to format... but so it goes. I'd love a chance to start with a pool of teams and cities and let nature take its course. I don't know if they're up to handling that (bifurcation of markets and the rest)... but it who knows.

i think it's easy for all of us to sit here and judge OOTPs marketing but the simple fact of the matter is that they've been doing this for over 18 years. Communication is always something that companies are trying to improve and get better at. I think in the end, the actual and ultimately the sales figures will speak for themselves.

Well, one thing's for sure. All of the questions above should be answered in less than 24 hours
