Linux users, what distro works for you?
After some trial and error I've come to realize Ubuntu doesn't support ootp. This recent thread supports my own experience.... https://steamcommunity.com/app/40243...1727319228222/
Even trying earlier releases 14.04 and 12.04 had no results. I found linux mint 18 works but the formatting is off. If I want to click an option for anything it's actually off kilter, like I have to click the next option below... it's super weird and annoying. Is anyone running another distro that works great with no problems? |

I've been playing OOTP without any problems using UberStudent, which is an Ubuntu 14.04-based distro. By the way, I'm playing with the Steam-based version of OOTP...

Same for Mint to be honest. On the Mint formatting issues, I have no idea. First I've heard of it. There are workarounds to get the game working for some users on those distros but they don't necessarily work for everyone.

I have played ootp 14-16 on ubuntu and through steam and it all worked fine. The main issue was usually if you tried to make the windowed version full screen (by just dragging it to the top) it threw off where buttons were as mentioned above. If it was regular windowed it usually worked just fine.

Those who've had success with ubuntu, or any distro really, how are you running it? The readme file says to extract the ootp17 folder and place it somewhere else on the disk then run ootp17.sh I've done this with every distro I've tried and mint 18 is the only one I've found that actually runs it. The others simply open up a text document.

Hi,
I am currently running OOTP17 on Ubuntu 16.04 through steam. My specific config is: * i5, HD3000 graphics * 4.4.0-47-generic kernel (ie, fully patched) * Unity window manager * running on 'bare metal' (not in a VM) I installed Ubuntu on this machine "from scratch", shortly after the release of 16.04. I have also run OOTP17 on Ubuntu 14.04, both via Steam and standalone, but I don't have access to those machines just now. IIRC, for the standalone, after downloading I did the following: * extracted to a directory under my home directory (ie, $HOME/baseball) * opened a console * ran 'cd ~/baseball ; ./ootp17.sh' IIRC, that was on a machine running Ubuntu x64 14.04, upgraded from 12.04, running Unity, with steam installed. -kr- |
