Talent change/development question
Hey Guys,
I have been playing OOTP for years but still cant seem to find an answer for this question. I always like to start my career off by creating Ted Williams and Nolan Ryan right off the bat as a 20 year old on my squad (just something I like to do). I take a 20 y/o randomly from the minors and edit him name/size/stats/rating etc to what I think it should be for him. I create current ratings then potential....so he develops a bit throughout the years of course The issue I ALWAYS have is inevitably, their ratings always decrease!!! after a month of simming I see they have decreased signifigantly in ratings potential and current. I go into the editor and their bloody stats resulting have dropped ....it happens again and again!!!!! it's so frustrating for me. I want to have players develop and decrease naturally of course....and I am even ok with my young draft picks to become busts or even diamonds in the rough......but I cannot figure out why these two specifically always drop? I have set the total change randomness to 1.....so there should be little change from their potential ratings and current correct? I want to play a normal OOTP career....just want to have those two guys on my squad and play as themselves and NOT change all the time. Any suggestions? am I missing something that can stop the drop in ratings? I always was told that if I turn off player development then everyone stays as they are and never change...even young prospects...they stay undeveloped. is that true? any help would be great. thanks, Kirby |

If you turn off development then no one changes.
1) Try importing them instead of changing a player. 2) Try changing a top prospect to them. I doubt I am right but you are adding HOF talent to the league. That needs to balance somewhere. It is only 2 players though so the push back should not be severe. OOTP tends to push talent and POT down so you are in the realm of the reasonable.

Try importing them as historical free agents with their age 20 seasons.

Have you done anything with their personality ratings?

Well say for example they have very low work ethic, they will likely not develop to their full potential

it seems to go both ways in 16... your just having some bad luck... unless somethign is very different in 17.
i thought i read they bent to the will of a few loud complaints in the forums about not enogh high-potential prospects... so if they added more, they have to drop more in order to stay in proportion within a normal variance. i also notice AI Eval has a seemingly different effect... i see 2X as many 80 rated players or more vs turning 100% accuracy on... i had to look after 100year run... there were 40-60 blue/5star/76+ batters (same with pitcher sort)... it dropped to 15-20 or so once i turned accuracy to 100%. ovreall is misleading anyway... probably half of those 15 are overrated if you consider individual raitngs and look at results. which seems good to me. people may thing 15-20 pitchers in RL are cy-young caliber, but only 4-5 truely are each year regardless of results. i havent done year-to-year team maintenance, yet. still waiting for a completed game before i invest in a league. |

There is no easy answer to anyone who wants to create edit a player and have them not drop.....I am finding. so out of my test runs of these suggestions...renaming a high level prospect yield decent return of ratings only dropping a big amount.......which is better.
However I did run a test on Nolan Ryan as an historic import in my league....and it seems to be working. 2 seasons in and he has simply improved!!! this may be the only way. if you want to simply create a player and have him stay "awesome" the only way it seems is to import a historic player similar to what you want....and rename him. they should follow a path of development based on their years in the bigs. thanks again guys |
