Drafting yearly in random debut environment

I'm a former Diamond Mine player looking to switch over to OOTP. I'm very interested in playing a baseball history with the actual 1871-current players but in a random debut system.

Q: when setting up something like that in OOTP, can the new-player debuts in the draft each year have a certain amount of randomness to them with relation to how their careers will play out? (Ex., when Babe Ruth enters into the draft, is he a mortal lock to hit 600+ HR if healthy.) ... Just wondering if drafting in that style of game play removes a lot of mystery in the draft.

Would also be willing to hear anyone's input on game play vs. DMB. Thanks!

Yes the built in player developments systems will insure plenty of randomness, don't worry. Some stars won't develop as they did, and some nobodies will become stars. Of course if you don't want that, and want them locked in historically you can change that via options, but without changing anything you'll get what you want. In one of my historic leagues Willie Mays, a promising prospect, suffered a series of concussions in the minors and had to retire without playing a game in the majors.

I haven't played DMB in many years so can't really do much of a comparison.

If you like things to be more random, I would turn off recalc and use the OOTP development engine. Either way, keep in mind that the players prior to 1900, tend to put up some crazy numbers in random debut. Especially the pitchers.
