Insane salary request
I just thought I'd share this with everyone and see if anyone's seen this as well. I took over a team that has been historically in the cellar in my league (Charleston Ghosts). They had the lowest budget and salary when I took them over 4 years ago. Over 4 years I've built them into a winner while still having the lowest or second lowest salary/budget in the league. One of the main reasons was my signing of Saito who defected from Japan at only 23 years old and was a complete stud. For whatever reason I didn't even have to get in a bidding war for him (in which I surely would have lost since I have no budget). I offered him $57mil over 4 years and he accepted. In addition to Saito my scout found a SS Internationally who has just raked all pitching. He's developed into a complete stud at only 23.
Anyways, Saito original contract is up after this next season so I thought I'd start the negotiations with him early. Below is what he is asking...I've also included a screenshot of the current top paid players in my league. There was a player who signed a few years back with the top spending team with a player option of $44mil in his final season alone. I couldn't believe that contract, and now I see this!! I also attached a screenshot of my league financials in the setup page. Has anyone seen a player want this ridiculous of an amount? I also want to say I am not complaining about this. I think its hilarious and can't wait to see how much either a.) I can get him to reasonably sign for or b.) see how much someone else ends up signing him for. This is by far not a reflection of my league as a whole so it's kind of cool to see how this will play out. Last edited by Erik; 01-20-2014 at 04:43 PM. |

1 WAR = around $6.5m this offseason. In 2008 or so it was $5m. In 30 years I can't/don't want to even IMAGINE what it'll equal.
Edit: 30% inflation in 5 years. So another 30% every 5 years gets you to 180% increase, or 1 WAR = $18.2m, if I did my math correctly.

not going to argue math, i think you are undercounting. However, based on the above revenue numbers there does not seem to be inflation in OP's leagues, so this is extreme in today's $ and i have yet to see anything like that, and i'm up to 2043 (i play in constant $)

what is the suggested arbitration value ??? then offer him a one year contract at that value and when he takes it then go for a long term contract keeping it cheaper in the long run hopefully works for you.... That's how I try to keep my core players

His suggested arbitration number is 17.1mil. I'll have to do something like that to see how he responds. Thanks for the idea! I kind of took his offer to mean "I'm going to test the free agent market".

I don't adjust my financials. They have been set the same since I started this league in 2012. Like I said, this isn't typical at all for my league. Most of the salaries are reasonable.

Here's a screenshot. Otmar Cervenka is my SS who I brought up through my international scouting program. He just reached arbitration this year for the first time and is making $9.4mil. I tried to see how much he'd sign for long-term but all he requests is a 1 year deal for now.

I am in 2019 for my MLB. Super stars make 23 mil. I add 500 K each season to most salary #'s as few as 500 to others. I up attendance by 100 each season and ticket prices by .10. Can't imagine what my league will look like by 2045.
Highest paid player in MLB, Felix Hernandez?, makes 23 million in 2019 (Not counting Wilbur Duggleby's 31 million but I did that manually)

actually, and I don't want to be malicious, but OP should consider sending him to AAA for one day, and get one more year of control.. |

I kind of have a similar problem and wonder how it happened. I just started a MLB quickstart, released all the players and did an inagural draft. I was looking to offer Miguel Caberra an extension and he wants $37 million per year. That seems kind of inflated for still being 2013. Is there any way to stop inflation in this game? Does anyone know why this has happened? I'm not sure if it matters, but this was at the beginning of the season, maybe inflation will go down as I play the season out?

I had the same thing happen with Miggy so what I did was offer him 23 million for 5 years and 37 million the final 2 years with team options .... after my current season I will just simply decline team option then see if I can resign him cheaper since in my case there isn't much talent at the 3B position (as I am ending the 2021 season) My minor league has dept at nearly every position except 3B GRRR LOL why didn't I plan this out better .

I don't believe inflation occurs in OOTP unless you're playing historical and have financial numbers imported year to year.
Curious, Erik, what is your league's cash maximum set at? |

correct future evolution has no inflation by defaults, however player salary request try and mimic real world (ie increasing salaries with time), where there is inflation. so a bit of an imbalance, so i usually level the request, or even go decreasing if i have the salary room... i never offer options above last salary. (except with a major buy out), as AI does not real understand the fact it's an option in analysis
