Two-Way Player
I just drafted a guy with amazing potential (and pretty far along) as both a pitcher and an outfielder. I'm wanting him to be in the rotation in AA and DH anytime he's available. As a complication, I'm trying to let the AI manage my minor leagues. I can't think of any way to get the AI to play along with my plan, so I've taken control. Does anyone know of a way to trick the AI into using a player in this way? And even if not, does anyone have a story of developing a two-way player? (I know I'll have to choose eventually. I'd just like to have some more data before I make the call.)

Just thinking out loud, but I would think the only way to do it is to manage it yourself. You could use 7 day lineups for the DH part.
If you used the Force Start feature, you would only be able to choose either P or OF.

This may have been changed in a recent patch (not that I recall seeing anything to that effect), and it may not work with position players developing pitching ratings (it probably shouldn't), but it's worked for me with pitchers still developing their hitting talents. |

Thanks. I think I'll manage him for at least this season using 7-day lineups. If his hitting is what my scout predicts, he's a Hall of Famer. If not, he's a solid starting pitcher. Or, he flames out and never reaches the majors as either. ; )

I have only just started my first fictional league in OOTP14... but it does appear that a good amount of pitchers naturally develop hitting ability. In fact, my current starting 2B was a former pitcher. He's 31 years old and spent about 7 years as a ML starter and parts of two other seasons as a swingman. He was acquired in the offseason for bullpen help... one of those situations where a team in financial trouble will trade away overpriced MR's for a bag of balls.
Then during spring training I sorted my entire roster by contact... and he had an 11/20... was pretty shocked. His infield attributes were above average, so I converted him to 2B... as I needed infield help more than bullpen arms. He's playing way over his head at the moment, hitting .335 over his first 50 games... But taking a quick peak at the editor, he would be a .276 hitter in the 'neutral environment'. Doing some quick sorts in the player search, the best overall hitting pitcher I can find in my current fictional league would hit .267 with 36 HRs in the neutral environment.

I had Babe Ruth and couldn't do it with him.
