Positions vs. Performance

I have a question about players positions affecting their performance.

Say I have a SP who grades at 2 stars, but if I change his position to MR he jumps to 4.5 stars. Say that I use him in the bullpen, would he perform better if listed as a MR instead of being listed as a SP?

Also, in that same line of thought, does changing a players position have any effect on morale?

The default setting for star ratings is to compare players at the same position. Pitchers get a boost in stuff when used in the bullpen vs starting, basically when in the bullpen the stuff is computed using the pitcher's top 2 pitches, but when starting the game uses the entire pitch repertoire. (You can see this boost in stuff by switching the pitcher between SP and MR, you'll also notice that a pitcher with 3 mediocre pitches doesn't get the same boost in stuff as a pitcher with two good pitches & one poor pitch). So yes in general a pitcher will perform better as a reliever.

Manually changing a players position doesn't affect his morale, but actually playing him at a different position might.

If you list a pitcher as an MR or CL, he will tire out more like a reliever (guys with top stamina would get tired around 50 or 60 pitches), but then he'll also get a boost to stuff. So, if you're simming, it's always best to leave your spot starter listed as an SP.
