Error opening game

I just downloaded and purchased the game and it won't let me open it. I click on the icon and it gives me an error message immediately. It says OOTP Baseball 12 has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Are you running Vista or Win 7?
If so you will need to right-click (the first time) and "Run as Administrator"

I'm on XP too.
Sounds like it could be an corrupt install
(or an install from a corrupt download).

First thing I would do is to download a fresh full install file. (12.4.27)

I have had problems in the past with Anti-virus/Firewall programs
corrupting installs.
So I would disconnect from the internet and disable/shutdown any
AV or firewall programs.
(Windows firewall has never caused me any problems.....or hackers from what I hear

)

Uninstall then install from new file.
(If you want to be super carefull I would even do a restart after each)

See if that helps.

This is getting frustrating.

I tried everything that was recommended and I can't get the game to work. I was able to load it onto my wife's laptop, but that isn't going to be a good solution. My computer appears to exceed the minimum requirements. I don't get it.

I had this last year on xp during beta. I screwed up an install. After that, I tried all that you have and still couldn't get the game to start. This is how I fixed mine:
Uninstall the game through add remove programs. Then do a system restore making sure you select one this is dated before your first game install attempt. Then install the game. This fixed my problem. Hope it will yours as well.

The system restore idea didn't work either. Guess I am just going to have to get my money back on this.

If it works OK on the laptop then obviously nothing wrong with the install file.....or the game.
It must be an issue with a previous bad install.
You could try a complete removal of the game.
Something the System Restore process should have sorted...but sounds like it didn't.
Follow these steps and see what happens.
(these steps assume previous "default" installation)

As you haven't been able to load the game I'm assuming you have not
been able to licence the game on this PC.
So no need to unlicence.

Uninstall (using Add/Remove...)

Delete the folder OOTP Baseball 12 folder in
C:/Documents and settings/user/Application data/Out of the Park Developments/
("user" is normally the name assigned to the PC/Laptop)

Delete the folder OOTP Baseball 12 folder in
My Documents/Out of the Park Developments/

Delete the folder OOTP Baseball 12 folder in
C:Program Files/Out of the Park Developments/

I have (to date) never had to remove any from the registry for an
OOTP12 clean install.

Restart

Ensure no programs are running (AV/Firewall).
Install

Restart

Let us know what happens.

I think we might be overlooking something here. One quick question? As soon as the game installed and the preferences screen opened, did you immediately license the game or did you exit the game and then try to start it via the desktop icon???
