19th Century Schedules
So I have all of the NA, NL, UA, AA, and PL schedules for 1871-1900 in both as-played format and as-scheduled (post 1877) format. My question to you shedules modders is what needs to go in the <SCHEDULE> tag. I understand that I can explicitly define the league starting date. What needs to go into the TYPE field of the SCHEDULE tag?
Also, is there a file naming convention I should use for these? I was just going to name them as follows: 1884_NL_as_played.lsdl 1884_NL_as_scheduled.lsdl 1884_AA_as_played.lsdl 1884_AA_as_scheduled.lsdl 1885_NL_as_played.lsdl 1885_NL_as_scheduled.lsdl etc.

Not to completely duck making any effort here, but I think this is a good opportunity to point to the schedules section of the online manual. I think it is pretty good and hopefully it can prove that by answering your questions.
Regarding the naming of the files, the manual explains all the options, but files (as long as properly formatted and matching the league parameters) can at least be manually loaded regardless of the name. So what you have is fine. To get some of the bells and whistles like with automatic loading of files, specific naming methods are described in the manual can optionally be employed.

Most of the original schedule files there are from me (though converted my format into theirs). The files are rather old, and I know there are at least a few errors in some of the schedules and there were conversion errors too.
I've been wanting get them updated for a long time now, but something else always comes along first... |

Ok, here they are, then:
19th Century Schedules There's 78 schedules files in here. One for each season 1871-1876, and 2 for each league/season for 1877-1900. Every year has an "as played" schedule that includes the games that were actually played. The 1877-1900 seasons also have an "as scheduled" schedule that is what the shedule looked like before real life wreaked havoc on it. Each league is treated separately with a separate schedule file. So in 1884 when you have the National League, American Association, and Union Assocation all playing at once, there are 6 schedule files for that year (2 each for each league). I confess, I haven't tried actually loading all of them into my game, but I did spot check several of them and they all load. You do have to make sure to set up your teams first, and also set your league settings to have the correct number of games for that schedule file (number of teams and number of games are included in the filename for ease of use). The start date will be set automatically to the correct date. Enjoy!

These schedules are great but one thing i did find was that the 1873 schedule for the Baltimore Canaries and Baltimore Marylands seems to be backwards. It has the Canaries only playing 6 games when it was the Marylands that only played 6 games that year. Just thought i would let you know.
Theres a few other teams that are scheduled a few more games than the record shows at baseball reference. I dont think those would make much difference but thought i just let you know. |

I included ties that are listed over at Retrosheet, so that's probably where those extra games come from. BB-Ref doesn't include them in the standings.

Question, the 1871 file lists 13 teams and 80 games as header but 9 teams and and approx 30 games for each team inside schedule itself. Anything I need to do to this or is it ok as is? I know the teams need to match the schedule and it seems this is off but I could be missing something.
Thanks |

19th Century Schedules The important thing, though, is that the number of games in the schedule file matches the number of games you've configured for your league. If not, the schedule won't load. It doesn't actually matter that the number of games the teams actually play in the schedule doesn't exactly match the number of games in the league setting. * Of course, teams won't play 30 games since this is the as-played schedule as reported by retrosheet.

That said, it might actually work, but then you'd have interleague play and even stranger standings than what happened in real life. You can see these schedules in action at my abandoned Baseball Saga dynasty thread (run in OOTP9 - what a long time ago!).
