What to do if partway through season...

Hi all. I am partway through a fictional season with OOTP9. Should I finish the season before I try to load OOTPX, or would it mess something up if I went ahead and upgraded in the middle of the season? I'm also part way through a historical season (1890) so I have the same question for that season.

Some like to convert during the off season. Over the last few versions, I've converted in mid season more than once and had no problems.

The one thing I strongly recommend though, is make a backup copy of your league folder prior to converting just in case something does go wrong.

Yeah, I guess I'm wondering how smooth it will be with the new pitching ratings.

With a major change like a new version, don't you think that changing during the off season would be a good thing?

I usually make significant changes on Dec 31, as Jan 1 is when all player ratings are adjusted (for want of a better word).

If the game came out in December, or at least the offseason, I'd convert my league in December game-time, too.

But it doesn't, and I play out my universe more-or-less in time with the real calendar. If I wait until the offseason to convert I end up permanently half a year behind. So I've always converted when the new game became available, usually waiting a few weeks to see if any big bugs need to be patched. Yes, that sometimes means some oddities and discontinuities in mid-season, but that's fine. It's kind of a Continental League tradition dating back to the mid-season switch between Earl Weaver I and Earl Weaver II in 1992.

You might want to consider how bug-free you want the program to be before you import a continuing league. I prefer to fiddle around with the program for a while and wait for at least a couple of patches before I import a favorite league.

Yeah, I agree with HH20XX. I'd plan on more like a July conversion after at least two patches come out.

Experience has taught me to never do an OOTP league import to a new version during any time but the league's offseason.

Won't do me much good, my ootp9 demo is finished and I am only partway through the first season.
