Releasing Arbitration Elgible Player Results in Financial Penalty?
Sorry if this has been mentioned before. For some reason my team expenses increased by $52,963.00 after I released an arbitration elgible player. This player is in his final year of his contract and is elgible for arbitration in the offseason.
Since I did not want to tender him an arbitration contract, I released him during the league's playoffs. But for some reason, I am still charged some extra money when releasing him. The funny thing is that I tried releasing other elgible players with similar contract (players in the final year of their contract who were elgible in the offseason). All other players I released did not penalized me except for this one player. Also another weird thing is that when you normally release a player, there is a popup warning stating that your team will be charged the remaining amount of his contract. There was no warning popup when I released this one player. I am totally confused on this. I am certain he is in the final year of his contract. This release was done after the season (during the playoffs). I also do not understand why it only occurs only on this player. All other players released does not cause my team expense to increase. |

Ok I found a work around for this. For some reason, the charges only occur if the player is not on the 25-man roster. I simply promoted him to my major league 25-roster and released him. Viola, no additional charges.
For some reason if he is on my minor league affiliates, I would get a monetary charge. Not sure if that is a bug or not. |

Not sure if it has any bearing on this, but I release these players AFTER the playoffs, when the off-season officially starts but before the arbitration hearings.

I can try that too. But I am not sure why it matters if the player is on the 25-man roster or minor league roster. Why would the same player induce a financial penalty if he was released while on the minor league roster whereas if he was on the active roster there is no penalty?
