Nicknames
If I do no want nicknames, do I just delete the names in the nickname file?

you mean player nicknames?
1. Switch into commissioner mode 2. Select the player whose nickname you want to get rid of 3. Select the editor tab and you will be able to delete or change the players nickname Last edited by daotis; 07-18-2008 at 05:45 PM. |

then again if you want to get rid of every single nickname, i suppose your method would work better, but apparently its a bad idea..

Not that simple, I'm afraid. You see, when OOTP creates a new game, it reads those first, last, and nickname files into a database of .dat files and those are what feed new player profiles from that point on.
Your best bet would have been to eliminate the nicknames at the very beginning by erasing them from that nickname file before you started the game. However, you might try using the Re-Import Names & Ethnicities Database option at the bottom of the Global Setup page. That might work; it was just fixed for other purposes in the latest patch. |

Nicknames
Okay thanks ... I've made a copy of the nickname text file and renamed it ... then deleted the names in the original. I'm hoping when new players are created that no nicknames will be created.

GG, please reread my post because I don't want you to be disappointed. New players get their information from files like names.DAT and players.DAT which are files not easily edited, if at all. These files are created when the league is created and they have already taken the data from names.txt, first_names.txt, and nick_names.txt. After that, the text files are no longer used. Like I said, the only hope that you have for your current game is trying that re-import names function.
