I'm done
I finally broke down and purchased the game becuase it looked like 2007 rosters might actually be happening. How wonderful to find that the game's design still makes an arduous chore of importing and accurately designing a real-world-based universe. I took the positive feedback on these boards and apparent progress on rosters as a sign that things had changed, that the game was more accessible to people who like to jump into a simulation that closely mirrors the real baseball world.
I even tried creating my own rosters this time. Alas, importing player names and history feels more like joining a trigonometry study group. Customizing player contracts and service times to reflect realistic paradigms? I'd have better luck convincing Tony Soprano not to whack anyone this season. Creating realistic rosters with realistic players is once again a near-impossible task. I got hopeful when a trusted roster maker popped up, but even he has been felled by injury (!) trying to set this game up the way a good number of players want it. I know there were no promises of real rosters, etc., etc. But if Sports Interactive's sales figures are indeed as disappointing as rumored, I would point the finger first at a failure to design a simple, even moderately challenging way to import an existing statistical universe into the game. Of course, if there are more fools like me out there who bought the game on a basis of trust, Sports Interactive will be just fine. I congratulate this game's marketing team. Despite snarky attitudes and poor business accumen, particularly when responding to a number of posts voicing concerns similar to my own, they managed to keep my hopes up that the game really had improved and was really more playable for the average gamer. And while I could have sensed the aforementioned deficencies by spending quality time with a demo, I jumped the gun. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. So long, OOTP. |

I understand you're frustrated about the problems surrounding real-world rosters. Most everyone is, and SI has been forthcoming about the reasons the game doesn't support 2007 rosters out-of-the-box. I'm not sure I've seen the "snarky attitudes" you've mentioned.
Since you already paid your hard-earned cash, why don't you wait a bit longer for this thread to resolve itself, and then see if that meets your needs, assuming that 2007 real-world rosters are the only thing that interests you. I would agree, the 2007 roster situation has been probably the single biggest disappointment this year. But, apart from that problem, I feel that the game is very accessible to the average gamer. Anyway, we're sorry to hear you are disappointed. We'll keep trying to make the game better. |

Agreed. I am really getting into fictional this year.
Robnail, have you tried that? I never thought it would work for me, that I would like it, but I was wrong. I play most of the games now with some sort of baseball reference sheet open to see how my fictional leagues are stacking up to their historical brothers. |

And about 98% of the OOTPB 2007 customers agree with you.

If you felt fooled last year why didn't you wait until a 2007 roster was done before buying the game? Because it "sounded" like one was about ready?
If a current roster were the most important thing to me I would have waited until one was done with a location to d'load it from, guess we're different that way. |

Strange. 3 posts, all within the last 5 days, member since 2004. From your post, you hated 2006, but never posted about it. You buy 2007 before the 3rd party rosters are ready, congratulate the roster maker (in a previous post), then call it quits within days after that event - based on what?
I'm curious as to what, exactly, you were looking for. Was it the fact the rosters weren't ready? (you knew that when you purchased) Was it the fact the players weren't accurate enough? (You gave us no idea of the settings you used) What exactly does "realistic rosters with realistic players" mean to you? |

It's funny, but I'm having such a great time playing a fictional league and (for the first time) a historical league (easy to set up in OOTP2007, BTW) that I'm considering not playing the MLB 2007 season at all, even when a roster set finally does come out.
The improved interface, the return of some nice 6.5 features, the immersion of FaceGen, and the ease in setting up historical leagues combined with the uniform, cap and logo mods, have all led me to believe that "real rosters" are no longer a necessity. At least for me. Go figure. Quite an unexpected conversion. So thanks, Markus, for a great game. It stands tall, with or without "real rosters." |

I'm not sure why people even post this stuff to begin with.
Anyhow...I remember the good ol' days when people just had to make 25 man Major League rosters. Now we're practically down to tee-ball leagues, and people want them accurate. (HEY! The 4th starter on the A-league team is 6'2", not 6'1"!!!) Okay, maybe I exaggerated a bit there...but you all know what I mean.

I didn't buy 2006 because it came out too late in the baseball season for me. So on my first attempt with the new SI version of the game I had no problem setting up anything I wanted to set up including fictional and historical databases.
I was able to find 99% of what I wanted and the 1% I couldn't someone on the board pointed it out to me with in minutes. It seems his biggest complaint is the lack of real rosters. While I admit that is a turn off for me also, I'm enjoying the historical aspect while waiting for those. |
