Strangest Rolen Roster superstar?

For those playing with the Rolen pack, I'm curious as to which players have unexpectedly developed into superstars.

I had Felipe Lopez, who I cut loose after three unproductive years with Toronto, go on to develop 50+ HR power and hit over 500 for his career. Frank Catalanato has also made the Hall of Fame.

Me Myself brought up Norm Huchins in a trade with Montreal, and he ended up making the HOF batting something like 370 lifetime....

My main problem is that In real life Norm bats like garbage, but is about an A in speed yet in the game he is an E....

I had a situation where someone on the Mets? I believe, after the 8th season, didnt have that good of ratings, but was getting over a THOUSAND at bats a year, Anyone know whats up with that? I deleted the player after he had every record in the book, except for batting average.......

His name was Michael something but it was a little while ago

His name was Michael something but it was a little while ago<hr /></blockquote>My guess would be that there was an error creating two of this guy in the league. then both sets of stats went to one player's file. Just a wild guess, I've never observed this kind of thing myself.

In the game I'm currently playing using the Rolen pack, Jay Gibbons, of all people, has just retired (year 2010) with 571 career homers -- a mortal lock for the HOF.

Other oddities:

Tomas Perez (already mentioned) was the 2003 & 2004 NL MVP.

Kevin Millar, a good but not great player in reality, batted .374 with 36 HR & 139 RBI in 2005.

Tood Hollandsworth is a veritable doubles machine in the game. From 2002-05, he belted 67, 58, 62, and 53 doubles respectively.

Chuck Smith, a borderline major leaguer in reality, went 21-7 with a 2.64 ERA, after being traded to the Indians before the start of the 2003 season.

Nomar Garciaparra: Never hit above .300 again, finished his career in obscurity buried in the Chicago Chisox minor league system in 2006....a possible but not probable outcome to Nomar's illustrious career.

One of the great things about baseball, and what truly separates it from other sports, is its unpredictability. As indicated above, Rolen's pack captures this in spades.

Who knows...maybe there really is a three-time batting champ buried deep inside Tomas Perez waiting to burst forth. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I forgot to mention...

Someone named "Nook Logan" won the triple crown in 2007. At first, I thought this guy was a fictional player until I checked his bio and saw an actual photo affixed to his bio that was imported from the MLB facepack I downloaded.

I was so impressed with this guy that I signed him as a free agent the following year, along with Pokey Reese & Gookie Dawkins. So now I have a Nook, Gookie and a Pokey in my starting lineup.

All I need now is a catcher named "Gumby" and I'll be all set.

I suppose this COULD happen but Jim Thome retired in 2013 with 902 career homeruns. He hit 54 in his 2nd to final year in the big's and managed 39 in his final season.

I started Mike Mordechai at third one season and he hit .320 with 64 doubles.

2002: Wilton Guerrero hit .359
2003: Jose Cruz Jr. hit 55 homers and Randall Simon hit .346, both with the Rockies
2003: Kevin Appier had a 2.53 ERA
2003: Robert Person went 20-5 and won the cy-young.
2004: Todd Ritchie won the cy-young
2004: Cruz once again hit 55 homers and Reggie Sanders hit 52

He qualifies for just about every position.

I like the guy, but his 3300+ hits in OOTP were a surprise.

Didn't use the Rolen Roster, I used the Lehman Database. I just got done with the 1991 season and had two amazing rookie years. First, in the National League, Bret Barberie of the Expos won the Rookie of the Year Award leading the NL with a .364 average, 222 hits, 105 RBI's, and a record 77 doubles! In the American League, Baltimore's Chito Martinez won the Rookie of the Year Award AND MVP Award with .302 / 53HR / 152 RBI!!!

Also of interest was the all-Canada World Series with the Montreal Expos topping the Toronto Blue Jays 4 games to 2!

what i noticed from rolen rosters. Any batter that plays in coors as the home team automatically will hit atleast 200 homers in his career if he has a 4 rating or higher. So when I had Jay Gibbons find his way to colorado for just one season he was traded after wards, went from 23 homers in a season, to 56 to a steady 45 to reach 634 in his career.

My strangest Rolen superstar has to be little known White Sox catching prospect Miguel Olivo. I got him as a throw in to a trade because he had B range and an A arm and I needed a backup catcher. I kept him in the majors to back up Raul Cassanova (who was incredible, oddly....--.312/44/152) despite his ratings of 2 hitting and 1 HR.

He backed up Cassanova for 3 years until I suddenly realized he was almost as good offensively and far better defensively. I traded Cassanova and started Olivo who went on to hit 40 homers for 7 consecutive seasons. He usually hits in the .270-.285 range with around 140 RBIs. He's 33 now and recently converted to 1B, but has 409 career homers already. Pretty odd if you ask me, considering Olivo isn't even that hot of a prospect....but that's why we love OOTP...the throw in can become the superstar!

And Baseball Brat...I think Bret Barbarie is just that good in the Lahman DB...one year I saw him hit .409 with 33HR and a ton of RBIs and Steals....just a crazy abberation in the DB I think.

I should mention that Luis Rivas of the Twins has developed into a 3,000 hit guy who consistently stole 50 - 70 bases for a decade. I don't know enough about the guy to say whether that's a surprise or not... is he a decent prospect?
