Bidding war / signing players

I'm currently in a bidding war, and I am wondering the following: what is the ideal number of years for contract lenghts? What is it for someone who's 23, someone who's 34, all ages really? Help would be appreciated, thanks.

For young guys, the longer the better. If it looks like they're the real thing, you want to lock them down for as long as possible, since their next contract will certainly be much larger. Just be careful not to turn them off to your club, since the young studs usually know this too. i've never been able to sign an under-25 stud for more than 4-5 years, unless I'm already offering a superstar contract.

For older guys, I usually sign them through 37-38 years old max. Most players start declining around then.

yeah but what about guys on the verge (24 through 27) and tguys at their pinnacle (28 through 33), what do they want???

Plus I'm not looking at the best choice for myself as the owner, but rather what the players (mostly in real life, not just OOTP) prefer.

A player will be likely to sign with you if you offer him a long contract for decent money. A guy is more likely to take 6 million over 6 years than 8 million over 3. My general rule is not to sign big contracts past the age of 35. So if a guy is 28-30 you can sign him to a contract for 5 or 6 years and be reasonably okay. When he gets older you may be better off offering him a large sum of money for only a year or two. Offer him 10 million for 1 year if you can afford it...
