I read a great article by Rob Neyer and thought you guys might be interested. Here's the link.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/neyer_rob/1391537.html Anyway he suggests that you just ignore highschool players in the draft and focus all of your attention on the college more experienced players. I know there have been threads similar to this. I was wondering if anyone had done any testing regarding drafting highschool players in OOTP 4. Such as what percent of highschool picks become complete flops. Also thought it would be interesting to hear your drafting strategies in OOTP 4. |

i find it's better to draft great older prospects, because they're closer to the majors. If a prospect is only average, i like to draft young ones becuase they have more time for their ratings to improve. Drafting 18 year old super prospects may not work out because they have a lot of development time and their ratings could drop.

I drafted an 18 year old centerfielder named Kelly Heroux who ended up becoming a 300 homer/500 stolen base guy (he's around 34 years old right now, still got a few years left). He came up to the bigs when he was around 20 or 21 years old and I originally played him in left field because a future Hall of Famer was playing in CF (Lawrence Seddon, a guy that Minnesota drafted and developed then couldn't keep him).
I've had some pitchers that I drafted early bomb though...but there's a guy who is on my team now named Ralph Ranger...he was drafted at 18 by the Twins I think (another sad story lol) and was immediately placed in the big league rotation. He then went to Oakland, then I signed him as a free agent for megabucks. He is a perennial 20 game winner/Cy Young winner(or contender). He's still in his 20s and already has several 20 win seasons. |
