Critical - CPU usage bug!

I have found after playing the game for only a short time, that when the game is idle (i.e., nothing happening at all except the news ticker scrolling by, you can even walk away from the PC for several minutes), the game eats up %50 of your current CPU. The only reason its not more I'm guessing is that the SI engine throttles usage to %50 (I've noticed this with Football Manager).

As this happens, the UI becomes slow and unresponsive, often requiring the user to click mutliple times just to activate a function. Reloading the game briefly solves this problem but it quickly returns back to %50 usage.

Thankyou. I saw an instance of this during testing which I believed was fixed. Will get this looked into

OOTP is at around 80-90% of my CPU right now after letting it idle for about the last 30 minutes with only sporatic use. Like you said, it makes it really slow and unresponsive.

I see it too. Even when just plain simming my PC is fully spiked at 100%. First game in a long time I have seen this happen. I have a 3ghz with 1gb of memory, so I would have thought it would be fine.

Hoping it can be addressed.

It reminds me of an old CM bug we had. On the list to check

OOTP takes about 95% of my CPU usage when the game is idle.

Specs:
P4 2.26
1 GB DDR

I noticed that mine was ramped up to ~180MB RAM usage and 50-99% CPU usage while in Full Screen mode. I switched back to Windowed mode and it was back to normal.

Haven't played the game extensively yet, but I hope this helps.

That would explain why I haven't seen it. I've been playing almost exclusively in windowed mode.

Doesn't make any difference for me whether I'm in windowed mode or not. The game is a CPU hog either way.

FWIW on my machine during processing the usage spikes to about 50% but during idle time I get no such spike

system if this helps differentiate:

P IV 3.2 Ghz, 1 gig RAM, 256M vid card, about 35 gig free HD space.

Ok, been looking at this myself and I reckon it might be to do with the ticker.

On my machine, I have two processors and one of them does max out when processing but idling I see 0% or 1% which is the ticker. On lower ended machines the ticker might be a problem so I think we'll add an option to pause / disable the ticker

Still looking though, simming now for a few hours!

Yeah I wondered if it was ticker related. But its not consistent. The CPU problem only happens over time. At first I can be at a screen with the ticker and have no CPU problem whatsoever. There's another issue underlying this, its not that simple. Even if it was the ticker it shouldn't use %50 of the CPU on a 3.2 ghz machine.

Seems like the right answer would be for the ticker to automatically pause or disable when the window loses focus.

I'm about %75 sure that this bug is triggered on the transactions screens. It seems like every time I encounter it I am moving players around between teams, though I don't always notice it right away.
